摘要： An improved method for forming a hollow core structural member, such as an automotive bumper beam, from moldable plastic sheets, such as fiberglass reinforced plastic sheets, by providing a press having a desired shape on the opposing members of the press, placing opposed sheets in the press with a layer of frozen, meltable material, such as ice, in place between them, forming the sheets into the desired article configuration in the press, removing the formed member from the press, then melting and removing the meltable material from the interior of the formed member.

摘要： A catheter for ablating tissue is provided. The catheter comprises an elongated generally-tubular catheter body having proximal and distal ends. An electrode assembly is provided at the distal end of the catheter body. The electrode assembly including a porous electrode arrangement that is generally transverse to the catheter body. The porous electrode arrangement comprises one or more electrodes electrically connected to a suitable energy source and a porous sleeve mounted in surrounding relation to the one or more electrodes and defining an open space between the porous sleeve and the one more electrodes. One or more irrigation openings fluidly connect the open space to a lumen extending through the catheter through which fluid can pass. In use, fluid passes through the lumen in the catheter, through the one or more irrigation openings, into the open space and through the porous sleeve.

Microwave heating causes the frozen core to be briefly thawed without heating the thread rubber layer and without moisture condensation on the core ball surface, reducing the time taken for the core thawing step and eliminating the need for a drying step.

摘要： The present invention relates to a new method of synthesizing two-dimensional polyaniline (PANI) nanosheets using ice as a removable hard template. The method comprises polymerizing aniline on an ice surface. The synthesized PANI nanosheets show distinctly high current flows of 5.5 mA at 1 V and a high electrical conductivity of 35 S/cm, which mark a significant improvement over previous values on other PANIs reported over the past decades. These improved electrical properties of the PANI nanosheets are attributed to the long-range ordered edge-on π-stacking of the quinoid ring, ascribed to the ice surface-assisted vertical growth of PANI. The PANI nanosheet can be easily transferred onto various types of substrates via float-off from the ice surfaces. In addition, PANI can be patterned into any shape using predetermined masks, and this is expected to facilitate the eventual convenient and inexpensive application of conducting polymers in versatile electronic device forms.

摘要： A medical device such as a catheter, stent or balloon, is formed by depositing a radiation curable composition on a form made of ice or wax. The deposited composition may be cured by irradiation, suitably with UV light. Complex structures can be built up if the deposition or curing is achieved imagewise. Compositions which photocure to polyester, polyamide or polyimide may be employed. A particular structure is a balloon for a rapid exchange catheter which has a guide wire lumen passing through the balloon cone walls.

摘要： A method of injecting molding an intake manifold for an internal combustion engine includes forming a thin-walled hollow shell to match the interior configuration of the manifold, inserting tapered mandrels in the openings of the shell, the mandrels being configured to define grip surfaces thereon, filling the shell with water, freezing the water to form a core assembly with the mandrels secured by the action of the ice gripping the grip surfaces, supporting the core assembly by the mandrels in a mold cavity that defines the outer configuration of the manifold, and injecting flowable, hardenable material in the space between the cavity wall and the core assembly. The manifold and the core assembly are removed and the ice is melted out. The manifold is formed with flanges that have outwardly tapered interiors for ready removal of the complementarily tapered mandrels. The shell has lips that engage and are partially surrounded by the material of the flanges but set back from the mounting surfaces of the flanges. Surface protrusions are formed on the outer surface of the shell to help secure the shell to the wall of the molded manifold.
