The machining center includes a spindle jig installed to be movable, a guide rail mounted to guide and move the spindle jig, a spindle that is fitted and supported on the spindle jig, and is equipped with a processing tool and rotates the processing tool, a column on which the spindle jig is mounted, an auto pallet changer equipped with materials, and transferring the materials to a processing area or a non-processing area, a splash guard rotated integrally with the auto pallet exchanger, mounted to be tiltable at a predetermined angle and separating the processing area from the non-processing area, and an upper cover installed to be rotatable on the movement path of the spindle jig along the guide rail. Accordingly, the replacement of the spindle can be quick and easy.

    • An alarm system including a battery powered transmitter received in a watertight housing. The housing includes an outwardly extending shank. The shank is adapted for receipt in a tool holder stored in tool change magazine. The magazine is mounted inside a high speed CNC milling machine. When the milling machine completes a work cycle on a work piece, it is programmed to activate an automatic tool changer that retrieves the tool holder with transmitter from the magazine and attaches them to a tool spindle. The movement of the machine is then used to activate a radio signal button on the transmitter and send a radio frequency signal to a battery powered receiver disposed outside the milling machine. The receiver than activates an alarm. The operator is then alerted that the milling machine has stopped operating and needs to be attended.

    • According to the present invention, there is provided a vertical machining center (1) which has working regions (&agr;, &bgr;) separable by a partition plate (P), and comprises a spindle head (15) adapted to move within one of the working regions (&agr;, &bgr;) separated by the partition plate (P) in a first machining mode and to move across the working regions (&agr;, &bgr;) not separate by the partition plate (P) in a second machining mode, and a stopper (20) which prevents the spindle head (15) from moving from the one working region into the other working region in the first machining mode and permits the spindle head (15) to move between the working regions (&agr;, &bgr;) in the second machining mode. The stopper (20) includes a movable stopper member (21) attached to a saddle (13) and stationary stopper members (26,27) attached to a bed (11). With this arrangement, machining ranges to be defined in the respective working regions can be maximized without the need for consideration of the coasting distance of the saddle at abnormal stoppage.

    • An adjustable protecting guard apparatus for a table saw having a guard positionable over the saw blade. The adjustable protection guard apparatus has a telescoping arm extending from one end of the saw table which supports a guard superstructure. A hinged connection on an edge of the guard superstructure permits the guard superstructure and the attached guard to pivot up and away from the saw blade. A control module simultaneously deactivates the motor rotating the saw blade with the pivoting of the guard superstructure. The control module has a multi-position key switch having a by-pass position permitting pivoting of the guard without de-energizing the motor. This permits difficult cuts to be made which would not be feasible with the guard in place. An anti-kickback pawl is also provided within the guard and prevents the saw from rejecting a workpiece in a direction opposite to its feed direction.

    • A dental technician's work station is provided with a hand-held machining device and a suction device for removal of dust resulting from machining. Connection of the machining device to the suction device by a common data bus is provided, and the parameters corresponding to the machining device are input and used to control both the hand-held machining device and the suction device. The suction device is thus always adjusted automatically to match the respective handling step using a specific machining bit. An especially fast and certain adjustment of the machining unit and/or the suction device by means of selector keys is effected, these keys having respective symbols for the particular machining bits utilized. The speed of the matching unit and, in an especially advantageous embodiment, the suction device as well, are thus adjusted correctly and simultaneously with a single key stroke.
