    • A game which combines skill and chance is disclosed for one or more players. According to the game, each player chooses, beforehand, the outcomes of actual athletic contests. The athletic contests are played in the course of a playing season by existing teams belonging to existing leagues. There are weekly contests, playoff contests, and a championship contest. Each player records his own choices and successes in a bound booklet preprinted with the opposing teams for each of the weekly contests, for the playoff games, and for the championship contest. A group record is kept on a board containing the names of each of the players, and provision for manually inserting the total number of successful choices of each player for each successive week, the cumulative successful choices of each player for all of the preceding weeks of the contest season continuing through the playoffs and concluding with the championship contest. Markers with pressure sensitive adhesive are provided for keeping track of individual contest winners, also, winners for the week and for the season.

    • A game apparatus and corresponding method of playing chess on a substantially spherical playing surface marked with playing positions of fourteen ranks and eight files with each file forming a continuous loop around said spherical surface. Ranks terminate or are bordered at the top and bottom of the sphere, therefore not continuous. Two sets of chess pieces are provided for in said game apparatus; each set comprising eight major chess pieces and sixteen pawns with eight of the sixteen pawns being distinguishable from the other eight, each set of eight pawns traveling opposite directions across ranks. Means are provided for adherence of the chess pieces to the spherical playing surface such that gravity would not remove the chess pieces from said playing surface. Said game apparatus does not require players to learn variations to the well known rules of chess play while providing a novel means to play chess.

    • A picture identification game apparatus for competitive determination of the identity of the subject matter of a partially exposed picture, such as a photograph or drawing of a well-known person, thing, or member of a select group. The picture is initially concealed with cover pieces of opaque material removably secured in an adjacent relationship to a protective window superimposed in front of the picture. Each of the pieces is uniquely identified by a marking on the exposed surface thereof. The covered picture is then displayed or published to the members of a group of competing participants. By a process which is keyed to the identifying marks, a first one of the opaque pieces is randomly selected and removed, thereby exposing a small portion of the concealed picture. After a predetermined period of time, a second piece is randomly selected and removed, thereby revealing another small portion of the concealed picture. The procedure is continued until one of the competing participants wins by correctly identifying the subject matter portrayed by the picture.

    • A competitive game apparatus comprised of a game board having a playing surface with a plurality of intersecting playing paths on which playing pieces may be positioned. Two or more players are each provided with a set of the playing pieces which are distinguishable from the playing pieces of the other player by indicia, as for example the color of the playing pieces. The players alternate in playing pieces on the paths, with each player attempting to extend a continuous strip of his or her player pieces while attempting to block the further extension of the strips of his opponents. A timer may be provided with each player required to complete his or her turn in a preestablished time period. This imposes a tempo on the play. Particularly when the game is played at a very fast tempo, the playing pieces already on the board tend to be inadvertently displaced, and it is desirable that the board and/or the playing pieces be constructed to detachably maintain the pieces where they are placed on the surface. The player who succeeds in preventing the opponent player from making any further moves wins the game or achieves a score. The playing pieces may be of different lengths so that the players must choose among playing pieces as well as choosing positions on the playing surface to occupy.
