    • A pack or set of four-sided, waterproof flashcards, which facilitates alternating between several subjects such as spelling, math and pattern recognition. One of the two faces of each flashcard is labelled with specific pairings of alpha-numeric characters or specific mathematical symbol pairings, or is substantially blank. Labelled in one of the four corners of the alternate faces of all of the flashcards in the set is a single small shape (for example, an oval shape). The colour of this shape varies, depending upon the information which is labelled on the aforementioned reverse faces of the flashcards. All of the flashcards may display non-permanent information, which can be printed, written or drawn by users onto both faces of the flashcards, with wet or dry erase markers, for many different interrelated learning purposes.

    • A portable, retractable writing surface device provides a writing surface that may be extended from a housing and held sufficiently flat by the device to facilitate marking on the writing surface with a writing implement, such as a dry-erase marker, chalk, grease crayon, pencil, pen, permanent marker or the like. The device maintains sufficient rigidity in the extended writing surface, such that the device may be used without an additional support surface, such as a clip board or table. The writing surface may be retracted back into the housing to protect the writing surface and to reduce the size of the device for storage or transport, such as within a pocket or briefcase. Retracting the writing surface may include rolling the writing surface onto a spool, accordion folding the writing surface or otherwise reconfiguring the writing surface to make it fit into a compact space (collectively referred to herein as “compressing” the writing surface). One or more resilient members may be used to make the extended writing surface flat when the writing surface is extended from the housing. The writing surface may include a flexible computer display screen.

    • A marking pen having a deformable tip, and adapted to apply ink or the like to a surface in a stroke of uniform width. The deformable tip has a pocket or recess in its marking surface, that allows a leading edge of the tip that is applied to a surface to be marked, to remain substantially a straight line during the marking stroke, rather than curling at its edges and producing a stroke of lesser width. A scraping blade is also provided carried by the pen, preferably by a cap for the pen, and can have barbs that securely engage it in a recess of the pen or cap for the pen. The invention is particularly useful in marking numbered zones of lottery cards, and in scraping away opaque layers for instant lottery cards or tickets.

    • A thermally erasable bath toy for enabling a user to create and erase drawing figures in a wet environment. The bath toy includes a drawing desk with a drawing surface that incorporates thermochromic material. A user can draw on the drawing surface by inducing the thermochromic material to enter its active temperature range, and the user can erase the drawing surface by inducing the thermochromic material to leave its active temperature range. The drawing desk can be caused to float atop a volume of water by incorporating or being formed of buoyant material or by housing an open inner volume. The color change in the thermochromic material can be induced by a temperature-operated drawing implement with a temperature applicator of heat transmissible material. The temperature applicator can include an elongate shaft that will act as a skeleton for a volume of insulative material. A weight at a proximal end of the shaft can help maintain a given temperature condition and cause a drawing tip to point out of a volume of water. Heat transmissible material can be retained in an open inner volume of the drawing implement. The heat transmissible material can be sealed within the drawing implement, retained within a removable hollow sheath, or inserted and evacuated through an opening in the open inner volume.
