A current detecting circuit with satisfactory linearity between the mutually insulated input and output sides is used for detecting a DC current on a communication line, indicating a communication state of the telephone unit and also for detecting an AC signal, representing a speech communication signal and used for recording an incoming message in the automatic answering telephone unit. This structure allows to insulate the recording circuit and the facsimile circuit from the communication line without a transformer, thereby reducing cost and dimension of the apparatus.

More specifically, using a tone detection function of a modem of a communication unit, a control unit determines if a signal of at least one period has been detected in accordance with detection parameters, i.e., a frequency, a level, and an on-time and an off-time, which correspond to a tone signal to be detected and which can deal with variations in the characteristics of the signal. When a signal of at least one period has been detected, changed detection parameters are calculated and set by adding margins to the frequency, the level, and the on-time and the off-time of the detected signal, and a signal of at least one period is again detected using the newly set detection parameters.

摘要： A facsimile apparatus capable of reliable printing after exchanging an ink cartridge. When removal and replacement of an ink cartridge is detected, a predetermined pattern is printed on a print sheet. The printing is performed employing a pattern which actuates all ink nozzles of a printhead to discharge ink. A user of the apparatus visually inspects and confirms the inspection pattern and presses a start button if the user determines that normal printing is performed, but presses a stop button if the user determines that normal printing is not performed. When the start button is pressed, the subsequent printing operation is performed, but when the stop button is pressed, the subsequent printing operation is suppressed.
