    • A valve assembly in a piston type refrigerant compressor is disclosed. The valve assembly includes a retainer formed integrally with a gasket plate for restricting the opening of a discharge reed valve of the compressor, and having on opposite sides at the distal portion thereof stay portions integral with the gasket plate for rigidly holding the retainer. According to the present invention, provision is made to guide some part of the refrigerant gas compressed in a cylinder bore to be discharged into a discharge chamber in such a way that the influence of the discharge gas pressure on the retainer at its distal end is reduced. In some embodiments of the invention, this is accomplished by guiding and allowing part of the gas to flow toward the proximal portion of the retainer to discharge the gas.

    • A swash plate type compressor is provided with a plurality of cylinders and a front and rear cylinder blocks having a crank case connected to a suction port. The cylinder blocks are connected to a front and rear housing sections in order to cover the cylinders. Each housing section contains a discharge chamber. A drive shaft is rotatable supported by the cylinder blocks. One end of the drive shaft is sealed within the front housing. A swash plate is mounted on the drive shaft and is rotatably disposed within the crank case. A plurality of two-head pistons engage the swash plate via a pair of shoes. The pistons move within their respective cylinders in cooperation with the swash plate. The refrigerant is sucked into each cylinder via a suction passage, and is then compressed therein. The refrigerant is discharged into the external refrigerating circuit through the front and rear discharge chambers, .and the front and rear discharge ports. A discharge passage is provided within the drive shaft, and interconnects the front and rear discharge chambers. A valve is provided at one end of the discharge passage to control the opening of the discharge port in relation to the pressure difference between the front and rear discharge chambers.

    • The cylinder block assembly (1a) of a swash plate type refrigerant compressor is formed with a suction passageway (17) in which a refrigerant gas containing a mist-like lubricant oil therein is sucked and passed therethrough, and a cylindrical separating chamber (22) is formed by an extension (21) from an inner wall of the suction passageway and has an opening directed toward an entering direction of a flow of the lubricant oil-containing refrigerant gas. The separating chamber (22) is provided with an bottom wall (22a) having a through-hole for an entrance of the oil, communicating between the separating chamber (22) and a swash plate chamber (4). The refrigerant gas containing the lubricant oil therein enters the cylindrical separating chamber (22) arranged in the suction passageway (17) and impringes upon an inner wall (22b) and the bottom wall (22a), whereby the flow direction thereof is changed, and flows out of the chamber through the opening into the suction passageway to thereby separate the lubricant oil from the refrigerant gas. The separated lubricant oil is supplied from the separating chamber (22) into the swash plate chamber (4), without overflowing from the chamber toward the suction passageway.
