    • In a double-headed piston type compressor provided with a rotary valve in a rotary shaft, the rotary valve has an introducing port for introducing refrigerant from a suction-pressure region through a supply passage and a respective suction port into a compression chamber. A shaft seal between a front housing and the rotary shaft for preventing leakage of refrigerant along a peripheral surface of the rotary shaft is accommodated in a shaft seal chamber formed in the front housing. A communication passage connects the shaft seal chamber to the cam chamber. A communication groove is formed in an outer peripheral surface of the rotary shaft that forms the rotary valve adjacent to the front housing for communication between the introducing port and the shaft seal chamber. The supply passage and the cam chamber are in communication through the communication groove, the shaft seal chamber and the communication passage.

    • A swash plate type compressor is provided with a front and rear cylinder blocks having a crank case connected to a suction port. The cylinder blocks include a plurality of cylinders, and are connected to a front and rear housing sections for covering the cylinders. Each housing section contains a discharge chamber. A drive shaft is rotatabley supported by the cylinder blocks. A swash plate is mounted on the drive shaft and is rotatably disposed within the crank case. Two-head pistons move within their respective cylinders in cooperation with the swash plate. The refrigerant is drawn into, and compressed in each cylinder. Thereafter, it is discharged into the external refrigerating circuit through the front and rear discharge chambers, and a final discharge port. A discharge passage includes a hollow primary passage which is provided within the drive shaft. The primary passage communicates with the front and rear discharge chambers. A groove is provided on an inner wall of the primary passage. As the drive shaft rotates, the groove separates the refrigerant from the lubricating oil mixed with the refrigerant. An oil passage is provided between the discharge chamber and the crank case. The separated oil flows from the discharge chamber to the crank case, through the oil passage, and is used again in lubricating the components of the compressor.

    • A swash plate compressor in which a drive shaft is rotatably supported in a cylinder block having a crank chamber. The swash plate is rotatably disposed on the drive shaft. Thrust bearings are individually fitted between the movable thrust receiving faces of the swash plate and the stationary thrust receiving faces of the cylinder block. As the drive shaft rotates, the swash plate likewise rotates and reciprocates a piston to compress a refrigerant gas. Annular movable ridges are formed on the front and rear side faces of the swash plate concentric around the drive shaft. Stationary ridges are formed concentrically with the movable ridges on the cylinder blocks to face the individually movable ridges. The stationary ridge has a smaller radius than that of the movable ridge. At the front and rear sides of the swash plate, the facing circumferential portions of the movable ridges and the stationary ridges are individually formed with movable and stationary thrust receiving faces for supporting the elastically deformable thrust bearings. At least one of the movable and stationary ridges are formed with escape faces so as to merge into the movable and stationary thrust receiving faces, for establishing escape faces normally between the corresponding thrust bearings. These escape faces expand and reduce the gaps when the thrust bearings are elastically deformed by the action of the swash plate due to the compression reaction forces caused by the reciprocation of the piston.

    • A swash plate type compressor is provided with a plurality of cylinders and a front and rear cylinder blocks having a crank case connected to a suction port. The cylinder blocks are connected to a front and rear housing sections in order to cover the cylinders. Each housing section contains a discharge chamber. A drive shaft is rotatable supported by the cylinder blocks. One end of the drive shaft is sealed within the front housing. A swash plate is mounted on the drive shaft and is rotatably disposed within the crank case. A plurality of two-head pistons engage the swash plate via a pair of shoes. The pistons move within their respective cylinders in cooperation with the swash plate. The refrigerant is sucked into each cylinder via a suction passage, and is then compressed therein. The refrigerant is discharged into the external refrigerating circuit through the front and rear discharge chambers, .and the front and rear discharge ports. A discharge passage is provided within the drive shaft, and interconnects the front and rear discharge chambers. A valve is provided at one end of the discharge passage to control the opening of the discharge port in relation to the pressure difference between the front and rear discharge chambers.
