    • An apparatus for inserting a weft into a shed by jetting fluids in a jet loom comprises a plurality of thin plate-like members arranged in alignment in the direction of weft insertion on a sley, each of the thin plate-like members being provided with an opening in the same position of each of said thin plate-like members to form a guiding channel, and nozzle means for jetting fluids through the guiding channel. Each of the thin plate-like members is provided with at least one cavity which is formed adjacent the circumference of each of the openings of the thin plate-like members on a downstream sidewall, in the direction of weft insertion, of the mutually facing sidewalls thereof. Due to the formation of the aforesaid cavity, the amount of the fluid flow escaping through the space between each two adjacent thin plate-like members outside of the guiding channel without narrowing the width of the space therebetween. As a result, the flight of the weft is remarkably stabilized and the flying speed of the weft is increased with reducing the consumption of fluids jetted from nozzle means.

    • A warp insertion monitoring method and apparatus for positively protecting woven cloth from defects due to warp insertion error or failure. A warp detector is disposed on a loom so as to have a warp presence/absence detection region located at a front or rear side and in the vicinity of a reed which serves for beating a weft inserted through a shedding formed by the upward/downward motion of healed frames against a cloth fell. The presence or absence of abnormalities in respect to the positions at which warps are inserted through the reed is identified on the basis of detection information available from the output of the warp detector. Detection timing for the warp detection information is so established as to fall within a period during which the loom is stopped, so that the presence or absence of errors in respect to the warp insertion can be detected before the loom is restarted.

    • A jet loom comprising a weft measuring roller for continuously drawing out a weft from a supply package, a weft storage unit for temporarily accumulating and storing the weft drawn out from the supply package by the weft measuring roller, a main nozzle for jetting air to insert the weft into the warp shed, and a driving unit for sinusoidally varying the rotating speed of the weft measuring roller. The weft stored in the weft storage unit runs in a free running period in a free running mode at a comparatively high running speed. After the stored weft has exhausted, the weft is supplied for insertion directly from the weft measuring roller, so that the weft runs in a constrained running mode at a running speed constrained by the surface speed of the weft measuring roller. When the running mode of the inserted weft changes from the free running mode to the constrained running mode, the driving unit drives the weft measuring roller so that the surface speed of the weft measuring roller is higher than a speed Vf defined by: Vf=Lo/tc, where Lo is the weft length of the loom and tc is a time necessary for one weaving cycle of the loom.

    • A coating quality measuring device has a pattern plate including one reference pattern portion having a larger pattern width and a plurality of strip pattern portions having different pattern widths which are smaller than that of the reference pattern portion and are decreased in order. The pattern plate is disposed opposite the coated surface. The pattern plate is reflected on the coated surface and a reflected image is formed on an image sensor. The image sensor successively outputs signals each corresponding to the lightness of each pattern portion on a line extending in a width direction of each pattern portion of the reflected image. A computing device calculates a difference between the peak value of the signal level of the output signal corresponding to each strip pattern portion in the reflected image and the signal level of the output signal corresponding to the ground portion, divides the calculated difference by the signal level of the output signal corresponding to the reference pattern portion and detects the pattern width of the strip pattern portion wherein the division value becomes not larger than a predetermined value, thereby to obtain the coating quality of the coated surface.
