    • The present invention relates to a serial shed weaving machine with a weaving rotor. Guide channels for weft threads transported by a flowing fluid are mounted on the weaving rotor. The guide channels are formed from a plurality of elongated, tube-like channel elements having a closable weft thread exit gap. The channel elements have complementary end configurations such that they can be moved together to form a closed guide channel. The channel elements are movable back and forth in the weft insertion direction. When the channels are moved in a first direction, the closed guide channel is opened and gaps are formed between the channel elements and each channel element is moved out of its associated part of the warp shed. When the channel elements are moved in a second direction, each channel element is moved back into its associated part of the warp shed and the guide channel is closed. The total excursion of each channel element in each direction is at least as great as the length of the element. Since the motion of the channel elements is exclusively back and forth in the weft insertion direction, the drive for such motion is relatively simple. Further, since the channel elements are each several centimeters long, the number of possible leak locations is sharply reduced over the prior art such that the weft threads may be inserted by suction air pressure.

    • The loom includes a reed constituted by a plurality of blades which are in alignment and parallel to each other. These blades have respective substantially circular apertures which have the same diameter and are aligned with each other to form a straight passage for guiding the pneumatic insertion of the weft. The portion of each blade between the aperture and the side of the blade facing the fabric (T), in use, has a substantially horizontal slit which extends from the aperture to the side of the blade. Between each pair of adjacent blades are interposed first and second spacer elements which are arranged respectively above and below the aperture and the slit of the blade. The loom includes drive means which, when activated, cause translational movement of the reed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the passage formed by the apertures in the blades of the reed.

    • A strand is furnished to a strand consuming unit, e.g. loom, having a periodic demand for a finite length of strand by:(a) continuously advancing the strand from a supply source for winding onto a first surface,(b) continuously advancing the strand from the first surface onto one end of a second surface for rewinding thereof on the second surface,(c) periodically operating the consuming unit to withdraw the strand from an opposite end of such second surface while continuing the advance of the strand both to such first surface and from the first surface toward the first end of the second surface, and(d) halting withdrawal of the strand when a finite length thereof has been withdrawn from the opposite end of the second surface by the consuming unit.Upon the withdrawal of the finite strand length from the second surface, the strand is mechanically engaged proximate the beginning of the second surface so as to preclude additional strand from being accidentally advanced from the first surface by the tension in the withdrawing strand.The invention also contemplates the adjustment of the conditions of the projection of the strand by the insertion nozzle for the purpose of adjusting the effective thrust applied by the nozzle to the strand so that the leading end of the pulse of air emitted by the injection nozzle always precedes the leading end of the strand being projected therefrom and bunching up of the leading strand end is thereby avoided.     • An apparatus for guiding a weft or filling thread in the shed of a loom, the weft thread being driven by a flowing fluid medium, comprises two lamellae combs which can dip into and out of the warp threads. The lamellae or equivalent plate-like guide elements of the lamellae combs each possess a throughpass opening for guiding the weft thread and a thread exit or outlet opening. When the lamellae are in a position completely immersed in the shed they are interleaved or shoved into one another and form a guide channel for the weft threads, this guide channel being coherent or continuous in the weft insertion direction. Hence, the thread exit or outlet openings are sealed, so that the guide channel also is continuously closed in radial direction. The closed guide channel renders possible, on the one hand, a controlled flight of the weft thread, a reduced energy consumption and driving of the weft thread both by a blowing action and also by a suction action and, on the other hand, can be particularly advantageously employed at a multiple longitudinal traversing shed loom containing a weaving rotor.
