    • In a tape cassette recording and/or reproducing apparatus capable of selective operation with a relatively large or small-sized cassette containing a respective pair of rotatable reels having a relatively large or small center-to-center distance, respectively; a cassette holder is movable between a cassette receiving and discharging position and a loading position and can receive a selected one of the large and small-sized cassettes when in the receiving and discharging position and can convey the selected cassette to the loading position; a pair of reel bases are movable relative to each other for varying the center-to-center distance therebetween; a reel base adjusting device is selectively driven in first or second modes for respectively moving the reel bases to first or second positions wherein the center-to-center distance therebetween is suitable for engagement with the reels of a large or small-sized cassette; a detector detects the size of a cassette received in the holder and assumes different conditions when detecting the large and small-sized cassettes, respectively; and a drive member is movable with the holder at least part of the way from the receiving and discharging position toward the loading position and is responsive to the condition of the detector for selectively driving the reel base adjusting device in the first and second modes, respectively, so as to dispose the reel bases in positions suitable for the size cassette being conveyed by the holder to the loading position.

    • A process for production of superconductor wire having multiple rings, comprising the steps of: preparing a silver mixture comprising a silver or silver-gold alloy mixed with a bonding agent, and a superconductor mixture comprising a superconductor powder with bonding agent; arranging both the silver mixture and the superconductor mixture in a extrusion die; extruding a wire having at least one ring of the superconductor mixture and one ring of the silver mixture in the radial direction; and heating the wire at the sinter temperature of the oxide superconductor so that the bonding agent is removed and the oxide superconductor powder and the silver powder are sintered. A superconductor wire comprising an inner core and an outer ring covering the core, wherein one of the ring on the core comprises a sintered silver powder and the other of the ring on the core comprises a sintered oxide superconductor powder.

    • In a tape driving system having both a tape reel holder which puts thereon a tape reel and a tape drawing arm which leads a part of the tape from the tape reel to a given portion, there is installed a reel holder brake device. The device has a brake band having a major portion operatively put around the reel holder. A tension regulator arm is pivotal about a pivoted portion thereof between the loading and unloading positions. The tension regulator arm has the given portion. A spring biases the tension regulator arm to pivot toward the unloading position. A drive gear drives the tape drawing arm when rotated. The drive gear has in one surface thereof a cam groove. A first pivotal arm has one end pivotally connected to one end of the brake band and the other end equipped with a follower pin slidably engaged with the cam groove. A second pivotal arm has one end pivotally connected to the tension regulator arm and the other end pivotally connected to the other end of the brake band. With this arrangement, the reel holder brake device can apply the reel holder with two types (viz., smaller and larger) of brake torque.
