    • A releasable disc adaptor for conforming the central hub of an information storage disc to a standardized magneto-optical disc drive spindle. The disc adaptor includes a hub receiving member having a center connected to a medium receiving member having a center. The centers of the medium receiving and hub receiving members are collinear. The adaptor includes a hub fastener fixedly mounted to the hub receiving member. The hub fastener is utilized to removably secure the hub receiving member to a disc drive spindle. The adaptor also includes a medium fastener connected to the medium receiving member. The medium fastener is used to removably secure the central hub of an information storage disc to the hub receiving member and prevent slippage therebetween so that the disc hub is thereby conformed to properly seat on the disc drive spindle while thereafter allowing the disc to be fully disengaged from the adaptor members for proper seating on an alternate disc drive spindle. The hub receiving member, medium receiving member, hub fastener, and medium fastener form a portable assembly that may be employed in any one of a plurality of magneto-optical disc drives.

    • This invention is a tape drive which includes a transducer head, a tape carrier, and a tape displacement structure. The tape carrier is provided in association with the transducer head, and is configured to support and move a tape along a tape travel path within the tape drive. The tape carrier moves the tape in contact with the transducer head along the tape travel path during at least one of a read operation and a write operation. The tape displacement structure is provided in association with the transducer head, and is configured to engage and bias a received tape from the tape travel path to a retracted tape travel path. The retracted tape travel path is spaced apart from the transducer head. The tape carrier is operative to move the retracted tape across the tape displacement structure, spaced apart from the transducer head. The tape carrier prevents at least one of transducer wear and transducer contamination caused by contact of the tape moving against the transducer head. A method is also provided.

    • An apparatus performs recording and/or reproduction of signals by a head of a drum with which a tape-like recording medium is brought into contact while being moved under a fixed tension from a reel engaging a supply reel base to a reel engaging a take-up reel base. An arm retains a tension post which presses against the recording medium, forming a predetermined path to detect a tension thereof. One end of the arm is pivotally supported, and the arm is urged by a spring so as to allow the tension post to elastically press against the recording medium. At least one end of a band brake for loading a braking torque on the supply reel base is locked to the arm. The locking points of both two ends of the band brake are at positions which are substantially symmetrical with respect to a perpendicular bisector of a line connecting a center of the supply reel base when a first recording tape cassette is used to a center of the supply reel base when a second recording tape cassette having a size different from that of the first cassette is used.

    • The present invention is related to a tray loading type magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. The tray loading type magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus includes a deck mechanism for accommodating different size tape cassettes, a cassette housing covered and fixed at the upper surface of the deck mechanism, a cassette tray combined with the cassette housing in such a manner that the cassette tray can be rectilinearly moved back and forth and being capable of selectively accommodating different size tape cassettes, a tray loading device for loading the cassette tray and a cassette holder receiving device for receiving a previously received tape cassette in the cassette tray in a predetermined position of the deck mechanism. Thus, a new formed tray loading type magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus for accommodating different sized tape cassettes, capable of simplifying its formation, reducing fabricating cost and using in a home is provided.
