摘要： Coating compositions formed from at least one hydroxyl functional non-vinyl material comprising at least one alcoholic hydroxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent are provided by the present invention. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carbamate functional material comprising at least one carbamate group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carboxyl functional material comprising at least one carboxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one amide functional material comprising at least one amide blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Other embodiments of the present invention are directed to substrates coated with the aforementioned cured compositions. Also provided are multi-component composite coatings which include a cured basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a cured topcoat deposited from a topcoating composition. The multi-component composite coatings of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings. Further embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods for improving scratch resistance of a substrate.

摘要： A composition that includes a non-gelled copolymer that includes one or more residues of a first polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a pendant amide, ester or carboxylic acid group. The nearest neighboring monomer residues of the majority of the first monomer residues along the copolymer molecule do not contain pendant carbonyl functional groups. The amide, ester or carboxylic acid group of the residues of the first monomer are the post polymerization transesterification, transamidification or hydrolysis reaction product of a C1-C4 alkyl ester group in the unreacted first monomer with a compound selected from amine functional compounds and hydroxy functional compounds. The reacted copolymer is substantially free of cyclical structures resulting from the transesterification, transamidification or hydrolysis reaction. The compositions may be thermosetting compositions useful in multi-layer composite coatings.

摘要： Disclosed are compositions comprised of (a)a polymer containing pendant and/or functional groups selected from the group consisting of carbamate, urethane and/or amide functional groups; and (b) a rheology modifier comprising the reaction product of an amine and an isocyanate; and, optionally, a polymer which is different from the polymer (a) which contains carbamate, urethane and/or amide functional groups. Also disclosed are curable compositions comprised of the compositions described above which further comprise (c) a curing agent having functional groups reactive with the functional groups of the polymer (a). The curable compositions are useful for a variety of applications such as adhesives, sealants and surface coatings where the presence of a carbamate, urethane and/or amide functional polymer in conjunction with the rheology modifier provides improved thixotropy and superior sag resistance.

The composition may contain co-reactive functional groups and may be a thermosetting composition. A substrate may be coated with the thermosetting composition singly or as part of a multi-layer composite coating that includes a base coat layer and a substantially pigment free top coat layer.

The sol of particles may be prepared by providing a suspension of particles in an aqueous medium; adding a first organic liquid compatible with the aqueous medium to form an admixture; reacting the particles with a first and a second modifying compound; adding a second organic liquid compatible with the liquid portion of the admixture wherein the second organic liquid is different from the first organic liquid; and maintaining the admixture at a temperature and pressure and for a time sufficient to substantially remove the water and the first organic liquid. The film-forming resin comprises an active hydrogen-functional polymer having low functionality; i.e., a functional group equivalent weight greater than 380 g/equivalent, and a crosslinking agent, yet surprisingly offers outstanding mar and scratch resistance.
