    • For primary use in a storage and retrieval subsystem in a data processing system, a robotic transfer system acts to transfer selected electronic magnetic storage cartridges between their storage and transducing positions, typically between vertically stacked concentric tape storage holders and a selected tape drive. The robotic transfer system for handling tape cartridges includes two hands, each mounted on a separate vertical axis disposed at opposite ends of a balanced rotating horizontal axis, such that no tape cartridge is ever more than 90.degree. away from the nearest hand. The use of two hands also provides a redundant data retrieval capability without concentrating the weight of two hands at a single end of a revolving horizontal arm, thus reducing the moments generated by angular movement and providing for faster tape access time and greater long-term system reliability.

    • A self contained gold training device designed to be integral with, or attached to and detached from the head of any golf club, gives a golfer an exact indication of the point of impact of the face of a golf club with a golf ball. The training device includes a housing which supports one or more impact sensitive transducers which generates an electric signal upon impact, an electronic circuit for determining if a transducer has received an impact, a display system responsive to the electronic circuit for signaling if a transducer has received an impact, a source of electrical power; and, in detachable systems, means for connecting and disconnecting the device to a golf club head. When attached to the head of a club, with the array of transducers on the face of the club, and swung into contact with a golf ball, the transducers generate a plurality of electrical signals which are transmitted to the electronic processor, and then to the display system which indicates the point of contact of the club face with the ball. In preferred embodiments there is an array of transducers, which, when they strike a golf ball, each generates a voltage which is proportional to the force exerted on that transducer by its impact with the ball. These voltages are in turn analyzed by an electronic circuit which then causes the display system to indicate the point of impact.

    • A storage library includes cells supported within a frame for holding media elements. A robot assembly is operable for moving toward the cells and manipulating media elements held by the cells. The robot is containable within a module which is removably mountable to the frame to provide modular replacement and removal of the robot from the frame. The robot is contained within the module as the module is mounted to the frame and moves out from the module to move toward the cells and manipulate media elements held by the cells while the module is mounted to the frame. The module is removably dismounted out of the frame while the robot is contained within the module to provide the modular removal of the robot. The module is removably mounted into the frame while a new robot is contained within the module to provide the modular replacement of the robot.

    • A storage library which enables capacity expansion without additional robotics hardware includes a frame, first and second modules having respective cells, and a robot. The frame supports the first module at a first frame length position such that the first cells are positioned at the first frame length position and along the periphery of a channel extending within the frame interior through the frame length. The frame supports the second module when the second module is mounted to the frame such that the second cells are positioned at the second frame length position and along the channel periphery. The robot has a support connected to the frame and a picker movably connected to the support. The picker moves through the channel to manipulate media elements held by the first cells, and to manipulate media elements held by the second cells when the second module is mounted to the frame.
