    • A bi-loop antenna system comprises an array of four bi-loop antennas equally spaced from the array axis and fed in phase and with equal power. Each antenna comprises an electrical conductor configured as two substantially identical open-ended coplanar loops, preferably square in shape, having colinear axes parallel to the array axis and electrically connected together, the open ends defining two closely spaced feed points at the middle of the array. The array is fed by a four-way coaxial power divider with output ports connected to the antennas, respectively, remote from the feed points thereof by coaxial lines of equal length. A balun comprising a portion of one of the loops of each antenna and a closely spaced coextensive conductive strip connects the inner and outer conductors of the coaxial cable to the two feed points, respectively, of the antenna. In a preferred embodiment, the conductors of each antenna are formed on a dielectric sheet or board by printed circuit techniques. This antenna system produces a horizontally polarized omnidirectional radiation pattern over an octave bandwidth and has a VSWR response of the input impedance with a value less than 2:1 over the octave bandwidth.

    • The basic log periodic zig zag antenna is made of one continuous conductorherein vertical wires function as radiators when they are in resonance. Horizontal wires of the antenna are the phasing stubs, which provide the proper phase shift for the radiating elements. Efficiency of the antenna is enhanced by effectively shortening the path between adjacent elements in the active region with a single conductor. Additionally, a vertical conductor between the shortened path conductor and the respective radiating elements reduces the resonance Q of the vertical radiators and functions as a mechanical support for the radiators.

    • A multiple ring dipole array comprises a plurality of dipole elements arranged in concentric rings and in a common plane. Each ring has a plurality of circumferentially spaced dipole elements, preferably folded dipoles, having equal lengths and disposed in opposed parallel pairs with elements of each pair spaced by one-half wavelength at center frequency. The elements of adjacent arrays have different lengths selected to provide contiguous or slightly overlapping operating frequency bands, the elements of one ring extending in directions transversely of the elements in the adjacent ring to minimize mutual coupling. Each element is fed by a pair of phase-matched coaxial lines connected to suitable switching circuitry by a hybrid junction. The array has a common phase center over the entire band and so has particular utility as a feed for a parabolic reflector.
