    • A thermal transfer printer includes a thermal transfer recording web roll having a bore and obtained by rolling a thermal transfer web. The segment of the thermal transfer recording web forming the innermost layer of the thermal transfer recording web roll is fixed to a part of a segment of the same forming the second innermost layer of the thermal transfer recording web roll. A holding device is inserted in the bore of the thermal transfer recording web roll to hold the thermal transfer recording web roll. The thermal transfer recording web roll and the holding device rotate in a unit to feed the thermal transfer recording web to a thermal transfer recording unit that forms images on the thermal transfer recording web. The thermal transfer recording web roll can be prepared at a low cost without requiring much time and effort.

    • Reels for carrying a sheet-like medium wound thereon are provided in parallel relation in a cassette case in a manner rotatable and shiftable longitudinally of the reels. A reel-biasing leaf-spring assembly is provided adjacent to one longitudinal end of each reel to bias the reel in a longitudinal direction. The leaf-spring assembly has a leaf-spring portion exerting the biasing force to the reel via an end projection on the reel, and rotation preventing arm angularly extending from the leaf-spring portion to normally engage a rotation preventing stub shaft carrying said projection thereon, the stub shaft having thereabout a plurality of flat outer surfaces one of which is engaged by said rotation preventing arm, whereby the reel is prevented from rotation. When the cassette is fitted in a printer, for example, the reel is shifted longitudinally against the force of the leaf-spring assembly, and the rotation preventing arm is moved away from the stub shaft so that the reel is allowed to rotate. The prevention of rotation is effective to eliminate unintentional slackening of the sheet-like medium.

    • A sensor head has a multiplicity of linear image sensors in correspondence with different radial directions of light emitted from a pixel in a pixel line of an LCD panel. The linear image sensors extends in the direction of the axis of an imaginary semi-cylinder. The linear image sensors have light receiving faces that are angularly spaced apart on an imaginary semi-cylinder, with their light receiving faces having normals passing through the axis of the imaginary semi-cylinder. Interposed in the space between the LCD pixel and the linear image sensors is an optical system having a multiplicity of light paths associated with respective angular components of the radiation emitted from the pixel line. Each of the light paths receives a predetermined angular component of light and transmits the light thus reveived to a corresponding one of the linear image sensors.
