    • Fluid conducting apparatus is disclosed for a dialysis system having a dialyzer, a source of dialysis fluid for the dialyzer, a heating chamber for heating dialysis fluid before introduction into the dialyzer, and pump means for pumping heated dialysis fluid from the heating chamber to and through the dialyzer. The fluid conducting apparatus includes first and second fluid conducting means. The first fluid conducting means is adapted to be connected to the source of dialysis fluid and to the heating chamber for introducing dialysis fluid into the heating chamber, and the second fluid conducting means is adapted to be connected to the heating chamber, the dialyzer and the pump means for conducting the fluid from the heating chamber to and through the dialyzer. The apparatus also includes shut-off means adapted to terminate the flow of heated dialysis fluid from the heating chamber to the dialyzer when the rate of flow of fluid out of the chamber exceeds the rate of flow of fluid into the chamber. In this way, the heating chamber will not be emptied of dialysis fluid.

    • Control apparatus for controlling or adjusting the position of a control member is disclosed. The control apparatus includes first and second members, pivotally connected together to pivot about a point. A control member is mounted on the first member and is disposed at a first distance from the pivot point. Coarse control means operatively associated with the control member are provided for coarsely adjusting the position of the control member relative to the second member. Further, fine control means are provided for finely adjusting the position of the control member relative to the second member. The fine control means acts at an action point on one of the first and second members to pivot the first and second members relative to each other about the pivot point. The action point at which the fine control means acts is a second distance from the pivot point which is greater than the first distance such that a selected amount of movement of the action point results in a change in position of the control member relative to the second member, the amount of change in position being less than the selected amount of movement.

    • A process for the treating of and/or removal of substances from a liquid, especially whole blood, via a semipermeable microporous membrane (13, 14, 15) through adsorption and/or biological reaction by means of a biologically active material. Said whole blood is exposed to pressure variations at the membrane surface in a way such that a penetrating fraction of said whole blood is flowing in an alternating flow path through the membrane walls for contacting said biologically active material.Said biologically active material is asymmetrically immobilized in and on the surface of the side of said membrane that faces away from said whole blood. Alternatively, said biologically active material may be bound to an unsoluble matrix behind said membrane.Said membrane is for example provided within a casing (7, 8, 9) comprising inlet (10) and outlet (11) for said whole blood. The space between said casing and said membrane is via a connecting nipple (12) in communication with for example an expansion chamber for the provision of pressure variations.By means of the device (3) it is possible to perform said process in one and the same step and by means of one and the same pumping system.

    • A method and apparatus for sterilization of a dialysis system. The dialysis system comprises a dialyzer, a receptacle for water and a receptacle for dialysis concentrate, and fluid conducting means for conducting fluids from the receptacles for water and dialysis concentrate to and through the dialyzer. The method includes the steps of terminating the conducting of dialysis concentrate through the fluid conducting means, introducing sterilizing agent into the fluid conducting means at a first point in the fluid conducting means, conducting the sterilizing agent through the fluid conducting means downstream of the first point, and directing a portion of the sterilizing agent from a second point in the fluid conducting means to a third point in the fluid conducting means, the second point being downstream of the first point and the third point being upstream of the first point. The apparatus includes a source of sterilizing agent, means for introducing sterilizing agent into the fluid conducting means at a first point in the fluid conducting means, and fluid return means for conducting a portion of the sterilizing agent from a second point in the fluid conducting means to a third point in the fluid conducting means, the second point being downstream of the first point and the third point being upstream of the first point. With such a method and apparatus, sterilizing agent is conducted substantially throughout the fluid conducting means of the dialysis system.
