    • A oil supply system supplies the same oil for lubricating an engine and for driving a hydrostatic infinitely variable transmission. The hydrostatic infinitely variable transmission is built into a crankcase of the engine, resulting in an overall compact configuration. A drive shaft of the hydrostatic infinitely variable transmission is provided parallel with a crankshaft of the engine. Axial centers of the drive shaft and crankshaft can be made hollow and serve as oilways. Further, an axial center of a counter shaft of the hydrostatic infinitely variable transmission can be made hollow and serve as an oilway. By the present oil supply system, engine oil is used in common as drive oil for the hydro-static infinitely variable transmission, and as oil supplied to parts of a cylinder head, a stepped transmission, and other various parts of the engine and transmission, thereby elimating the duplication of oil pumps and filters and reducing the maintanance associated with servicing independent oil systems.

    • In an engine having a dry sump type lubrication structure, a feed pump, a sub-scavenging pump, and a main scavenging pump of an oil pump are all integrally provided by disposing a feed pump rotor, a sub-scavenging pump rotor, and a main scavenging pump rotor in parallel on the same common drive shaft. This arrangement reduces the necessary size and weight of a feed pump and a scavenging pump while increasing the pumping capacity thereof The oil sump is divided into a plurality of oil sumps which are different from each other in their longitudinal and lateral positions. Oil in a first oil sump and a second oil sump is pumped by the main scavenging pump and sub-scavenging pump, respectively. A housing of the oil pump is composed of a first block, a second block, a third block, and a fourth block, wherein oil passages are provided in these blocks. The oil pumped by the main scavenging pump and the oil pumped by the sub-scavenging pump are collectively discharged in a collection discharge passage via the main scavenging pump discharge port and the sub-scavenging pump discharge port, respectively, and the oil thus collected is fed to the oil tank.

    • To provide a layout structure of a clutch lever shaft capable of realizing compact layouts of a whole power unit in which a starter centrifugal clutch and a transmission manual multi-plate clutch are provided, and of a whole vehicle on which the power unit is mounted. A centrifugal clutch shaft and a manual multi-plate clutch shaft are disposed in parallel. The clutch lever shaft of the manual multi-plate clutch is disposed orthogonally and substantially vertically upward in relation to a pressing direction of a friction plate in a vicinity of an end portion of a lifter pin. The clutch lever shaft is disposed between the centrifugal clutch and the manual multi-plate clutch when viewed from a top of the power unit.

    • A crankcase with a ceiling portion for shutting off the upper side of an oil pool chamber. An oil flowing window is opened in the ceiling portion of a right case. An oil strainer is formed in a flat plate like shape. The oil strainer is fitted to the oil flowing window. The right case is provided with an oil passage through which the oil having passed through the oil strainer flows roughly horizontally to an oil pump suction port. The ceiling portion of the right case is provided with a cutout portion by not casting a portion of the case at a position where the ceiling portion of the right case and an oil pump are adjacent to each other, and a plug is fitted in the cutout portion. The vertical size from the oil pool to the oil pump suction port can be reduced as much as possible, and the overall height of the internal combustion engine can be restricted.
