    • A carburetor 9 for feeding separate lean and rich channels 12, 13 of an engine intake duct 14 comprises a body 20 having a mixing passage 22 with an air intake side 24 and an engine outlet side 26. A throttle shutter 16 is rotatable about an axis transverse the mixing passage, and a partition 10 is located within the mixing passage upstream of the throttle shutter. The downstream edge of the partition 10 is adjacent the throttle shutter axis 16A whereby in use of the carburetor the partition defines an extension of the lean and rich channels upstream of the throttle shutter, the partition thus providing substantial isolation between the lean and rich channels for all rotational positions of the throttle shutter. In a preferred embodiment a choke shutter 17 is located upstream of the throttle shutter and is rotatable about a further axis 17 A transverse the mixing passage, the upstream edge of the partition being adjacent to the axis of the choke shutter.

    • A method and apparatus for implementing alerts on a browser running on a portable handheld device is disclosed. The method generates an asynchronous notification action from the server and in response transmits an alert containing a message indicating availability of HTML pages that describe the nature of the alert. The alert is received at a node on a network and translated into the original message. An alert receipt acknowledgment is transmitted to the server. Access to the alert HTML page is provided through a URL containing the appropriate query strings necessary to present the appropriate HTML page. The invention also discloses a wireless local area network (WLAN) adapter associated with a wireless network that receives paging signals from a server on the network and returns an acknowledgment signal back to the server. The invention also discloses a client/server based method of delivering messages initiated by a client. After a connection is established between a client and server, the client requests a message from the server. In response, the server retrieves and returns the message back to the client.

    • The present invention relates generally to peptides, polypeptides or proteins having one or more amino acids or one or more amino acid sequences which exhibit color-facilitating properties, either on their own or following interaction with one or more other amino acids and to nucleic acid molecules encoding same. Such peptides, polypeptides and proteins are referred to herein as “color-facilitating molecules” or “CFMs”. The present invention further provides genetic constructs for use in genetically modifying eukaryotic or prokaryotic cells and more particularly eukaryotic tissue so as to alter their visual characteristics or capacity for exhibiting same to a human eye in the absence of excitation by an extraneous non-white light or particle emission. The present invention, therefore, extends to eukaryotic or prokaryotic cells and more particularly eukaryotic tissue, which are genetically modified to produce CFMs and which thereby exhibit altered visual characteristics in the absence of excitation by an extraneous non-white light or particle emission. In one particular embodiment, the CFMs are used to alter the visual characteristics of plants and even more particularly flower color. In another embodiment, the present invention provides gels or coatings or similar biomaterials in the form of a biomatrix comprising the CFMs such as for use as a UV sink, in a sun screen, in cosmetics, as an expression marker or other reporter molecule or for use as a photon trap to increase light intensity.
