    • A noise control apparatus adapted for installation on top of a straight upright sound barrier, existing or newly erected, is provided which comprises a main body formed from a first screen inclined towards a sound source and a second screen inclined away from the sound source to have a generally V-shaped cross section; the first screen having formed at the top thereof a first additional screen inclined away from the sound source; the second screen having formed at the top thereof a second additional screen inclined towards the sound source; and the distance between free ends of the first and second additional screens being 55 to 88% of that between the tops of the first and second screens. This sound barrier structure has a highly improved effect of noise control while being very compact and lightweight.

    • A noise barrier includes upright-standing support columns spaced a predetermine distance from each other and each made of an H section, and a plurality of wall panels provided between two neighboring ones of the support columns by inserting each wall panel at opposite lateral edges thereof from above into U-shaped recesses, opposite to each other, of the support columns, the plurality of wall panels being thus stacked one on another to form a main soundproof wall, and a noise control module to be installed on the topmost wall panel, the noise control module comprising side frame members to be inserted at lower ends thereof from above into the upper portions of the U-shaped recesses, opposite to each other, of the support columns; a lower frame member connecting the side frame members to each other by securing them at lower ends thereof to the lower frame member; first and second additional screens installed at lower ends thereof pivotably to the lower frame member and having a horizontal length smaller than the distance between the support columns; a coupling member holding the first and second additional screens at a predetermined angle of inclination when the additional screens are inclined toward and away from a noise source, respectively; and sound insulation joint sheets elastically extensible horizontally and bridging, over the support column, two additional screens put in neighboring relationship when the first and second additional screens are opened away from each other.

    • A reticle defect inspection apparatus that can carry out a defect inspection with high detection sensitivity are provided. The apparatus includes an optical system of transmitted illumination for irradiating one surface of a sample with a first inspection light, an optical system of reflected illumination for irradiating another surface of the sample with a second inspection light, and a detecting optical system that can simultaneously detect a transmitted light obtained by the first inspection light being passed through the sample and a reflected light obtained by the second inspection light being reflected by the sample. And the optical system of transmitted illumination includes a focusing lens driving mechanism for correcting a focal point shift of the transmitted light resulting from thickness of the sample.

    • An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording material includes a cartridge, a main assembly including a positioner positioning the cartridge and an urger urging the cartridge to the positioner, a mover supporting the cartridge and movable between a pulled out position outside of the main assembly and an inside position inside the main assembly, and a gripper mounted to the mover and movable between a reference position and an outward position located outwardly with respect to the pull out direction of the mover. When the mover is at the inside position, the cartridge is positioned to the positioner by the urger to be placed in a positioning state when the gripper is at the reference position and the positioning state of the cartridge is released by moving the gripper from the reference position to the outward position.
