    • A method of recording information on and reproducing information from a magnetooptical recording medium which includes first and second magnetic layers. The method includes the step of projecting a light spot onto the medium. When reproducing information, the light spot is projected onto the medium from the side of the magnetic layer. In this method only a high temperature region of the second magnetic layer within a light spot projection portion is changed to a perpendicular magnetization film so that information recorded in the first magnetic layer is transferred to the perpendicular magnetization film of the second magnetic layer. In addition, information which is transferred to the second magnetic layer is detected by using reflected light from the medium which is subjected to the magneto-optic effect from the perpendicular magnetization film of the second magnetic layer. When recording information, a magnetic field is applied, whose magnetization direction is modulated according to information, to a light spot projection portion of the medium so the magnetization of the second magnetic layer is oriented to the direction of the applied magnetic field, and the magnetization of the second magnetic layer is transferred to the first magnetic layer to form a record bit.

    • A synchronous motor includes a reduction gear train operatively connecting a rotor to an output shaft. A retaining member is rotatably mounted on and frictionally engages the first gear member of the reduction gear train for angular movement about the axis thereof, the first gear member being in mesh with a drive gear on the rotor. The retaining member has an abutment lug which is engageable with the engaging portion when the rotor is rotated in its reverse direction whereupon the engaging portion rebounds from the lug to cause the rotor to rotate in its normal direction. The shaft of the first gear member is parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor and is disposed at a position angularly displaced about the axis of the rotor from a predetermined point of the rotor by an angle of 360.degree./P x n when said engaging portion is brought into engagement with the abutment lug wherein P is the number of the magnetic poles around said rotor and n is an integer (0, 1, 2, 3 . . . ).

    • A timer switch comprises a cam member of a generally disc shape having a cam surface at its periphery. The cam surface is stepped to provide a depressed portion and a shoulder portion adjacent thereto. The cam surface has a notch formed in the shoulder portion and opening to one side of the cam member. The cam member is operatively connected to a motor for rotation. A shaft is mounted on a casing for rotation about and displacement along the axis thereof. The cam member is fixedly mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith. An electrical switching means comprises a pair of first and second contact plates of a resilient material. The first contact plate is biased into sliding engagement with the cam surface. The second contact plate is biased normally into engagement with the first contact plate for energizing the motor to rotate the cam member. Upon depression of the first contact plate into the depressed portion the second contact plate engages the shoulder portion to de-energize the motor. Upon axial displacement of the shaft, the second contact plate is moved into the depressed portion through the notch so that the second contact plate is again biased into engagement with the first contact plate to reset the timer switch.
