    • A polymer dispersed liquid crystal display device includes a top substrate and a bottom substrate. First electrodes are provided on the top substrate and second electrodes are provided on the bottom substrate. Orientation are provided on the top and the bottom substrates. The orientation films are respectively rubbed in predetermined directions. A polymer material, a liquid crystal material and a predetermined amount of a chiral agent are interposed between the top and bottom substrates. The polymer material is separated from the liquid crystal material through irradiation by ultraviolet rays. The liquid crystal material and polymer material have a mutually orientated and dispersed structure. The liquid crystal material has a predetermined twisting angle in a predetermined twist direction. As a result, light is scattered when substantially normal to the liquid crystal display device and the surface of the top substrate. Thus, a polymer dispersed liquid crystal display device is obtained that is particularly bright in a specific direction.

    • A polymer dispersed liquid crystal electro-optical device comprising a liquid crystal polymer complex layer having a liquid crystal and a polymer, wherein said liquid crystal and said polymer are aligned in the same direction when no electric field is applied, and an electrode structure formed on each side of said liquid crystal polymer complex layer for applying an electric field to said liquid crystal polymer complex layer to align said liquid crystal along the electric field so as to render said liquid crystal polymer complex layer in a light-scattering state. The liquid crystal polymer complex layer is formed by dissolving a liquid crystal and a polymer precursor to form a solution; adding a compound in which at least one hydrogen atom in a benzene ring is substituted by a hydroxy group or a compound having a benzene ring with a hydroxy group as a basic skeleton to said solution; polymerizing said polymer precursor to from a polymer; and phase separating said liquid crystal and said polymer to form a liquid crystal polymer complex layer. The compound improves the initial refractive index, and the refractive index and contrast after energize-aging.

    • A light-emitting device includes a plurality of pixels constituting a screen, each of the plurality of pixels including four subpixels, which are a red subpixel, a green subpixel, a blue subpixel, and a white subpixel. The red subpixel has a light-emitting layer formed of a red-light-emitting material that emits red light and extending along the screen, and a color filter provided above the light-emitting layer to transmit red light.
