    • A method for processing frozen slices of tissue of biospecimens mounted on or adhered to glass slides, i.e. forming a frozen section (2), and arranged on a carrier (1), has the following steps: a.) immersing the frozen tissue slices in a fixative, b.) staining the tissue slice, c.) dehydrating the tissue slice, and d.) optionally clearing the tissue slice. Steps a.) to d.) are performed by automatically transferring the frozen sections (2) on the carrier (1) between and into and out of at least a container (C1) holding a fixative, at least one or optionally more, preferably two containers (C3, C5) holding a staining solution, a container (C6, C7) holding a dehydrating solution, and optionally a container (C8) holding a clearing solution. The transfer and the time duration during which the tissue slices are in said containers (C) are controlled by a control unit controlling an actuator (10).

    • The present invention relates to a grossing tool for preparing slices of tissue having a uniform predetermined thickness. The tool comprises a first and a second jaw for holding a tissue sample in a substantially fixed position therebetween. The first jaw and the second jaw have a first and a second array of prongs, respectively, for engaging the tissue sample. Furthermore, the prongs have parallel edges for guiding a cutting tool and form at least a cutting slot of a predetermined width corresponding to a predetermined thickness of a slice to be cut from the tissue sample. An actuator moves the first jaw and the second jaw in a plane of movement oriented perpendicular to the first and the second array of prongs between an open position and a holding position for holding the tissue sample. The grossing tool enables even an inexperienced user to cut tissue samples having a predetermined and substantially uniform thickness.

    • The present invention relates to a device for the extraction of a compound from a solid material, comprising: (1) a microwave unit; (2) an inner vessel housed and fluidly sealed within an outer vessel, the inner and outer vessels enclosed within the microwave unit, wherein the outer vessel is configured to hold a solvent to be vaporized and the inner vessel is configured to hold the solid material; (3) a condenser for condensing the vaporized solvent and delivering a condensed solvent to the inner vessel; (4) the inner vessel further comprising a solvent outlet configured to deliver the condensed solvent containing an extracted compound back to the outer vessel; and (5) a first stirrer within the outer vessel and a second stirrer within the inner vessel for agitating the solvent within the inner and outer vessels during the extraction process.
