    • Closure arrangements for use with flexible packages include a zipper-type closure, which, after initial sealing, if access is gained to a package interior, the arrangements provide evidence of that access. In certain embodiments, a closure with mating male and female profiles is used which, after initial sealing of the package, if access is desired to the package interior, one of the male or female profiles breaks, to prevent a resealing of the package. In other embodiments, after initial mating of the male and female closure profiles in order to seal the package, if access is desired to the package interior, the package walls are torn in order to gain access. In other embodiments, after initial sealing of the package by mating of the male and female profiles, if access is desired to the package interior, the male and female profiles are deformed, such that they no longer mate to provide a secure closure. Methods for using the arrangements herein are also provided.

    • A resealable slider closure mechanism includes a first closure profile, a second closure profile, a slider, and a plow. The plow is a separate piece that is attached to the slider at a later time. The plow has an attachment peg extending from it, while the slider has a cavity adapted to receive the attachment peg.     • A method of thermally splicing a first zipper to a second zipper, and the thermally formed splice produced by this method, are provided. The first and second zippers each include a male profile and a female profile adapted to interlock with each other. The splice is prepared by thermally fusing an end section of the male profile of the first zipper to an end section of the male profile of the second zipper and thermally fusing an end section of the female profile of the first zipper to an end section of the female profile of the second zipper. Alternatively, the splice can be prepared by thermally fusing the end sections of two closed zippers. The male profile of each zipper includes a male locking member, and the female profile of each zipper includes a female locking member. To provide substantial continuity between the male locking members of the first and second zippers and between the female locking members of the first and second zippers, a notch is formed in the end section of the male profile of the first zipper and the end section of the female profile of one of the first and second zippers prior to thermally fusing the end sections of the two zippers.

    • The present invention relates to a film structure and a method of manufacturing the same. More specifically, the film structure may include a barrier material made from EVOH, nylon or other thermally sensitive barrier material encapsulated by a first adhesive material. The barrier material and the first adhesive material form a barrier layer and a first set of adhesive layers when coextruded. The barrier layer and the first set of adhesive layers may be coextruded at the same or a similar temperature to form a first extrudate. The extrudate may be encapsulated by or otherwise coextruded with a second adhesive material to form a second extrudate at a higher temperature than the first extrudate that then may be formed into a flat sheet via a die. The first set of adhesive layers protects the barrier layer from high temperatures and long residence times related to the coextrusion/lamination process that may degrade the barrier layer. In addition, acid terpolymer consisting of ethylene/methyl acrylate/acrylic acid adheres a barrier material of EVOH to outer layers of the film structure.

    • A package includes a surrounding wall enclosing a containment region and a spout. The spout is movable relative to the surrounding wall between a retracted position and a protracted position. A first resealable closure mechanism is secured to the spout for selectively opening and closing communication between the mouth of the spout and the containment region. In another embodiment, a second resealable closure mechanism is secured around an outer periphery of the spout mouth, when the spout is in the protracted position. When the spout is moved into the retracted position, the second resealable closure mechanism is along the interior of the mouth and allows the mouth to be selectively opened and closed. In another embodiment, a peelable seal is secured to the spout arrangement for providing a hermetic seal. Methods for constructing and using a package having a pour spout are described.
