    • In an embodiment, torque control operation is provided in a transmission having a variable displacement variator with a hydraulic actuator. The transmission is engaged in a neutral state such that the variator output experiences substantially zero torque, and a first hydraulic pressure sweep to the hydraulic actuator is commanded while a corresponding sweep of motor speed ratio of the variator is recorded. The transmission is engaged into a locked mode providing a fixed output speed and a second hydraulic pressure sweep to the hydraulic actuator is commanded, and a corresponding sweep of variator output torque is recorded during this sweep. A torque/pressure map is then constructed relating motor torque, motor speed ratio, and actuator pressure by scaling the sweep of motor speed ratios and the sweep of variator output torque. The resultant map is usable to provide feed forward torque control of the transmission.

    • A powertrain includes an engine, a transmission having a first input connected to an engine output shaft, and a variator. The variator includes a pump connected to the engine output shaft and a motor connected to a second input of the transmission. The pump has a variable setting that is determinable by a position of a pump actuator in response to a command signal. A controller associated is disposed to control operation of the variator, at least in part, by providing the command signal to the pump actuator. The command signal is determined based on an operator command and on a compensation term, which depends on a correlation function of a parameter related to the speed ratio between a pump speed and a motor speed and a flow characteristic of the pump actuator.

    • A steering control system for a machine having a traction device is disclosed. The steering control system may have a steering actuator, and a steering sensor configured to generate a first signal indicative of an actual steering angle of the machine. The steering control system may also have an operator input device, an input sensor configured to generate a second signal indicative of desired steering of the machine, and a feedback actuator operatively connected to the operator input device. The steering control system may further have a travel speed sensor configured to generate a third signal indicative of a travel speed of the machine, and a controller configured to activate the steering actuator to move the traction device an amount based on the first and second signals and to activate the feedback actuator to urge the operator input device toward the neutral position based on the third signal.
