    • First information is sent from a contents-information receiver apparatus to a contents-information sender apparatus. The first information includes a combination of certificate information and second information for the contents-information receiver apparatus. The first information further includes a signal of a signature for the combination of the certificate information and the second information. In the contents-information sender apparatus, a determination is made as to whether the combination of the certificate information and the second information in the first information is correct or wrong in response to the signal of the signature in the first information. In the contents-information sender apparatus, the second information is extracted from the first information before being stored. The second information for the contents-information receiver apparatus is sent from the contents-information receiver apparatus to the contents-information sender apparatus. In the contents-information sender apparatus, the sent second information is collated with the stored second information.

    • A clock signal generation apparatus includes a first device for extracting reference information from an input digital signal. An oscillator operates for generating a reference clock signal having a frequency depending on a control signal. A second device connected to the first device and the oscillator operates for generating the control signal to the oscillator in response to the reference clock signal generated by the oscillator and the reference information extracted by the first device, and for locking a phase of the reference clock signal to the reference information. A third device connected to the second device operates for deciding whether or not the phase of the reference clock signal is successfully locked to the reference information. A fourth device connected to the second device, a memory, and the third device operates for storing the control signal generated by the second device into the memory when the third device decides that the phase of the reference clock signal is successfully locked to the reference information. A fifth device connected to the memory, the oscillator, and the second device operates for selecting one of the control signal currently generated by the second device and the control signal stored in the memory, and for feeding the selected control signal to the oscillator.

    • A method for recording and reproducing digital signals in and from a recording medium is provided. The digital signals are to be recorded in any given k-th mode of N-kind digital signal transmission modes of mutually different packet sizes. Digital signals of p.sub.k packets with additional data are recorded on tracks of the recording medium in unit of d.sub.k data blocks. Data blocks of a multiple of the least common multiple R of the data block recording units of the respective digital signals of the N-kind digital signal transmission modes are recorded in each track. The data blocks recorded in the recording medium are reproduced. Here, N is a two or more natural number, k is 1 to N, and p.sub.k and d.sub.k are a natural number. There is a case where the digital signals are to be recorded in first and second digital signal transmission modes of two different packet sizes. In this case, in the first digital signal transmission mode, the digital signals of one packet in unit of two data blocks with the additional data are recorded. Further, in the second digital signal transmission mode, the digital signals of two packets in unit of three data blocks with the additional data are recorded. And, the data blocks of a multiple of six are recorded in each track on the recording medium.

    • A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus has a rotary magnetic head mechanism having at least a first rotary magnetic head with a magnetic gap set to a azimuth angle less than 90 degrees in a clockwise direction with respect to a width direction of recorded traces and a second rotary magnetic head with a magnetic gap set to a azimuth angle less than 90 degrees in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the width direction. The traces are formed on a magnetic tape moving in a forward direction at a speed in accordance with a rotational locus of the heads moving and obliquely crossing a travel direction of the tape. The first output signals obtained by the first head are selected in the case where a rotational locus surface of the heads changes in a reproduction operation within an angular range less than 180 degrees in a clockwise direction with respect to the traces formed on the tape. On the other hand, the second output signals obtained by the second head are selected in the case where the rotational locus surface of the heads changes in the reproduction operation within an angular range less than 180 degrees in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the direction of the traces formed on the tape. Reproduction is executed in response to the selected first or second output signals while the tape is being moved in the forward direction or a reverse direction at a speed higher than that while recording.

The modulation-resultant information signal has q different notch frequencies. The S pre-coded information blocks are converted into S amplitude signals representing amplitude values respectively. A set of q first waveform signals and a set of q second waveform signals are generated. The q first waveform signals represent waveforms related to the q notch frequencies respectively. The q second waveform signals are different in phase from the q first waveform signals by 90.degree. respectively. Each of the S amplitude signals and the 2q waveform signals are multiplied into 2q multiplication-resultant signals. The 2q multiplication-resultant signals are added and accumulated into 2q addition-resultant signals respectively with respect to each of the S pre-coded information blocks. An error signal is generated in response to the 2q addition-resultant signals, and thereby the S error signals are generated which relate to the S pre-coded information blocks respectively.
