    • An apparatus for accurately dispensing predetermined amounts of fluid sealant onto can ends which comprises a dispenser arm mounted at one end for horizontal and vertical arcuate movement, a clamp for releasably holding the arm in one operative position, a can end hold down located on said dispenser arm and capable of reciprocal and rotational movement, and a proximity sensor responsive to the reciprocal movement of said can end hold down to generate a control signal when the can end hold down is approaching the apex of its reciprocal movement and dispenser mounted on said dispenser arm proximate to said can end hold down and capable of dispensing a predetermined amount of fluid sealant onto a can end in a predetermined location in timed response to the signal from said proximity sensor.

    • A system and method for removing a coating from an elongated metal part or a bundle of such parts is described. The disclosed system includes a soaking vessel that contains a solution suitable for degreasing the metal part and softening the coating thereon. An ultrasonic cleaning vessel containing an aqueous cleaning solution cleans the coating off of the metal part by ultrasonic agitation. The system further includes at least one rinsing vessel for rinsing the cleaning solution of the cleaned part, and a drying vessel for rapidly and thoroughly drying the part after it has been rinsed. In the disclosed process, the elongated metal part, or a bundle of such parts, is/are soaked in a solution that is maintained at an elevated temperature for a time sufficient to soften the coating. The elongated metal part is then subjected to ultrasonic agitation in an aqueous cleaning solution bath at an elevated temperature for a time sufficient to loosen and dislodge the coating from the elongated metal part. The elongated metal part is then rinsed to remove any residue and rapidly dried.

    • Conveyor apparatus for conveying articles such as flat annular can ends and for controlling the rate of feed of the articles. The articles are transported through a conveying conduit defining an elongated passage with an inlet opening for receiving the articles and an outlet opening for discharging the articles. Feed control apparatus is associated with the conduit, preferably near the outlet opening, for controlling the rate of feed of the articles and comprises resilient liner means associated with the conduit means and located at least partially within the passage for frictionally engaging articles in the passage and controlling the rate of movement of the articles therethrough and force applying means associated with the resilient means for forcing the resilient means into frictional engagement with the articles in the passage. The force applying means is used to control the amount of friction exerted by the resilient means on the peripheral surface of the articles. The force applying means may be regulated and adjusted so that the articles exit from the conduit one at a time with a predetermined gap between adjacent articles, as stacks of a predetermined size or the movement of the articles within the conduit may be completely terminated whenever desired.
