    • The present invention provides a method for modeling the performance of a system comprising computer software operating on computer hardware. In accordance with the present invention, system performance is modeled by fitting non-linear curves to data points for system performance parameters, such as response time and throughput, as a function of load. Data points may be measured in testing may be measured through monitoring a system operating in a production environment. While a variety of non-linear curves may be used in accordance with the present invention, a logarithmic curve may be used to model system throughput and an exponential curve may be used to model system response time. By defining a relationship between throughput and response time a distance may be calculated between the curves, and this distance may be used to determine an optimal load. Additionally, a graph displaying both throughput and response time as a function of load may be displayed to a system operator in a graphical user interface to facilitate the evaluation of system performance.

    • A disturbance locating system includes a voltage transducer, a current transducer and disturbance energy determination circuitry. The system may also include disturbance power determination circuitry. The voltage transducer couples to an output of a voltage transformer, the output of the voltage transformer representative of a voltage on a line. The current transducer couples to an output of a current transformer, the output of the current transformer representative of the current flowing through the line, the output having a forward reference direction and a behind reference direction. The disturbance energy determination circuitry couples to the voltage transducer and the current transducer. Based upon the inputs received, the disturbance energy determination circuitry determines disturbance energy flowing in the line and estimates a direction of disturbance energy flow with respect to the system as either in front of or behind of the disturbance locating system.

    • An improved field programmable gate array (FPGA) is provided which includes tab network connectors for interfacing groups of configurable function generators with lower levels of interconnect and for interfacing lower levels of interconnect with higher levels of interconnect. The tab connector network can also be used to route a lower level routing line to a higher level routing line. The connector networks described enable a flexible routing scheme to be implemented in which the routing lines at each level are divided into sets.     • A method of making a phase lock loop circuit is disclosed. The method includes a method of simulating the phase lock loop circuit. The simulation runs on a system for making phase lock loop circuits. The simulation step initializes a reference frequency variable associated with a reference frequency of a phase lock loop circuit. The simulation method also initializes a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) frequency variable associated with a VCO frequency of the phase lock loop circuit. A phase error is obtained from a frequency error between the reference frequency variable and the VCO frequency variable. The simulation method resets the phase error by a reset phase level when the phase error is approximately the same as a multiple of a reset threshold. When the frequency error changes sign, the phase error is permitted to also change sign. The simulation also determines a loop filter input for the phase lock loop circuit that depends upon the phase error and the frequency error. The simulation method provides a dramatic improvement in simulation time over conventional simulation methods.
