    • A biological fluid collection device with a pivotable faucet is disclosed. The device is designed to collect, hold and transfer a biological specimen into a non-evacuated tube through an integrated pivotable faucet component. This device uses no needles, either blunt or sharp, and provides safety from needle puncture. The device works with a non-evacuated tube and a specially designed cap that attaches to the container via the pivotable faucet. The device includes a container for collecting, holding and transferring the biological fluid. The design of the container facilitates use of the tube as a handle in order to position the container to receive collection of the biological fluids. The method of collection begins with using the non-evacuated tube as a handle to hold the container and collecting the biological specimen in the container. A lid is attached to the top of the container to prevent contamination and exposure to the specimen during transfer into the non-evacuated tube. The non-evacuated tube is rotated and stopped in place by a detent. The transfer of the biological fluid is without any contact to the liquid specimen. Gravity allows the liquid to transfer. Liquid transfer is stopped by rotation of the tube and pivotable faucet. The tube is rotated back to its original position as a handle and pulled off the container. The second tube may be filled at that time or the container can be discarded for proper disposal.

    • A specimen collection device is provided for efficient collection of biological specimens. The device includes a container with a substantially closed bottom, an open top and a side wall therebetween. An outlet aperture is provided in or near the bottom wall. An access port assembly is mounted in the outlet aperture. The access port assembly includes a split septum. The container is used with a test tube and with a cap that has a blunt cannula or blunt tube that provides access into the test tube. The blunt cannula or blunt tube can be urged through the slit in the split septum to enable a gravitational flow of the specimen from the container into the test tube. Separation of the test tube from the container allows the split septum to reseal. The test tube then can be sealed and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

    • The urine collection device of the present invention is an open collection system designed to collect and transfer a liquid urine specimen into a non-evacuated tube through a valve. The device is designed to be user friendly and has a finger placement platform so that one can hold the container without risk of contaminating the inside of the container or becoming exposed to the specimen. The specimen is transferred into the non-evacuated tube when the tube is connected to the valve port. A blunt cannula is used on the collection tube to transfer the specimen thereby avoiding exposure to sharps. The collection tube is attached to the urine collection device at an oblique angle. Gravity allows the specimen to be transferred into the tube and automatically stop at a pre-determined volume based on the oblique angle. The urine collection device with the tube attached may be placed on a flat surface without tipping over. When the filled collection tube is removed from the urine collection device, another tube may be attached for further filling. The self-sealing feature of the valve prevents the remaining liquid from leaking out. The filled collection tube may then be shipped to a laboratory for further analysis.

    • This invention relates to a closed system specimen collection container. The collection container is designed to collect, transport and transfer the liquid specimen into a non-evacuated tube through an integrated valve component. This device has no sharp needles and utilizes a blunt cannula component on a test tube. The operation of the device consists of the steps of collecting a specimen into the container and attaching a cap in permanent locking and leak resistant attachment. The cap may be a snap-on or threaded lock. The specimen may then be immediately transported to a laboratory in the container where the specimen can be transferred into a tube for analysis. Alternatively, the specimen may then be immediately transferred into a non-evacuated tube through the integrated valve by a passive means. This technique is accomplished by inserting the blunt cannula attached to the tube into the bottom of the container and interfacing with the integrated valve component. The valve is pierced by the blunt cannula on the tube allowing passive transfer of the specimen without the user coming in contact with the liquid. Gravity allows liquid to transfer automatically. The filled test tube is then pulled off of the container and a second tube may be filled at that time if desired. The container may then be discarded for proper disposal. The integrated valve is a self-sealing valve which allows the user to obtain multiple tube samples without the risk of leaks or spills from the container.
