    • An image measuring instrument includes: a CCD camera having an objective lens; an orientation changer that changes an imaging direction; a movement mechanism that relatively moves the CCD camera and a workpiece for auto-focusing the objective lens; and a position detector for detecting a position of the CCD camera. A calibration method includes: a preparation step for preparing a reference gauge having a sphere of which radius is sized not more than a focus depth of the objective lens, a surface of the sphere defining a reference surface; an orientation-changing step for changing the imaging direction; a focus-adjusting step for focusing the objective lens on the reference surface using the auto-focusing of the movement mechanism; and a position-detecting step for detecting the position information of the imaging unit by the position detector, thereby calibrating the position of the CCD camera.

    • A collision preventing device includes: a holder 20; an annular collision detecting portion 30; holding means 40; and switching means 50. The holder 20 is attached to a non-contact probe 18. The annular collision detecting portion 30 covers the non-contact probe 18. The holding means 40 holds the collision detecting portion 30 displaceably and returnably in a Z-axis direction with respect to the holder 20. The switching means 50 detects a relative displacement occurring between the holder 20 and the collision detecting portion 30 and commands a driving system to stop the movement of the non-contact probe 18 or move the non-contact probe 18 in a escape direction. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the breakage of the non-contact probe 18, the main body of the measuring apparatus, the work, and the like due to the collision.

When the probes are brought close to the workpiece and the touch-signal probe detects contact, the non-contact surface roughness probe is set within the optimum distance relative to the workpiece.
