    • An expanding apparatus includes a housing with a bearing surface on which a rear portion of a computer is to be placed, and engaging projections arranged on the bearing surface so as to be fitted individually in engagement holes of the computer. As an operating lever provided on the housing is swung up or down, the engaging projections is moved between a first position in which the computer is connected to a first expansion connector of the apparatus and a second position in which the connection is removed. The apparatus is provided with a photointerrupter and an actuating piece which are arranged in the housing, while the operating lever has a push projection which causes the actuating piece to switch the photointerrupter on and off as the lever is swung. When the operating lever is swung from a home position toward a release position with the computer connected to the external expanding apparatus, the photointerrupter detects this and delivers a warning signal to the computer.

    • A personal computer includes a main body having a stepped portion formed in a front portion of an upper surface of the main body. The stepped portion has a bottom surface lower in level than the upper surface. A keyboard is detachably placed in the stepped portion so that when a display rotatably mounted on the main body is rotated to its closed position, it is clamped between the display and the bottom surface of the stepped portion. A protruding portion protrudes from the bottom surface of the stepped portion and extends through a through hole formed in the keyboard so to restrain the movement of the keyboard when the keyboard is mounted in the stepped portion. The protruding portion has an abutment portion which is brought into contact with the display rotated to the closed position and supports the display. When the display is rotated to the closed position, a hook on the display engages an engagement portion formed in the protruding portion.

    • According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided an information processing apparatus that is operable in a first operation state and a second operation state, the apparatus including: a history storage unit configured to accumulate: a power usage reduction that is calculated based on a power usage difference between the first operation state and the second operation state; and an acquisition time at which the power usage reduction is acquired; an adding-up unit configured to add up values of the power usage reduction for a given period thereby calculating a power usage reduction amount; and an image generation unit configured to generate an image indicating a difference between the power usage reduction amount and a target value therefor and to display the image on a display device.

    • An electronic device system comprises a portable computer including an input surface through which information is input, a power switch manually turned on or off, a first connector electrically connected to the power switch, and an expansion station having an expansion device for expanding a function of the computer and an input section connected to a power supply. The expansion station include a main body containing the expansion device and the input section, a stand supported by the main body and removably holding the computer, and a second connector arranged in the stand and connected to the first connector when the computer is held by the stand. The stand includes a pair of engaging members movable between a first position, in which they hook the computer, and a second position, in which they are released from the computer, when the first and second connectors are connected to each other, and a lock movable between a lock position, in which the engaging members are inhibited from being moved from the first position to the second position, and a lock release position, in which the engaging members are allowed to move from the first position to the second position. The lock is maintained in the lock position, when the computer is connected to the power supply through the first and second connectors and the power switch is turned on.
