摘要： An insulation system for pipes which includes segments of fiberglass insulation or other mineral fiber slit along their length for surrounding the pipe, a butt strip tape for sealing abutting ends of the segments of insulation, and means for sealing a flap on the insulation segment covering the slit after the pipe has been inserted therethrough. The butt strip tape is a laminated tape which includes a layer of paper, a layer of fiberglass, a layer of foil and a pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive. The means for sealing the slit may be either an adhesive film cast on a release liner and applied to the flap or a double sided adhesitve tape. The double sided tape is a laminate which has an adhesive layer on each side of a central, thin substrate. The adhesive used in all instances is an isooctyl acrylate polymer which is approximately a 100% acrylate compound having a solvent content no greater than 0.5%. The adhesive allows the tape to be applied at temperatures ranging frong -17.degree. F. to 158.degree. F.

In one embodiment, a coating of black acrylic or epoxy is applied to the copper strip beneath the adhesive layer. In a second embodiment, the adhesive contains carbon particles dispersed uniformly throughout the adhesive in sufficient quantity to render the adhesive opaque.

摘要： A method and material for covering exposed insulation surfaces to protect them from moisture and other environmental factors. The covering typically includes a first, exposed layer of a metal-containing foil, a second layer of a metal-containing foil, a layer of a polymer disposed between the first two layers of foil, a third layer of a metal-containing foil, and a second layer of polymer disposed between the second and third layers of foil. A layer of a pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to one of the exposed layers of foil, and the pressure sensitive adhesive layer is covered with a release liner prior to application. The foil provides the necessary moisture and weather seal while the polymer provides the necessary strength and puncture resistance. The overall thickness of the laminate typically is less than 100 microns, permitting it to be easily cut and manipulated at the job site while providing an effective, long lasting weather seal.

摘要： A tape applicator for application of a double-sided adhesive tape to a member which can be cut and assembled to form a frame for glazing for a skylight, a window or a door. The tape applicator includes a spindle for accepting a plurality of rolls of tape and apparatus for guiding the frame member past the roll of tape to permit accurate and dependable application of the tape to the frame member. A spring mounted block urges the tape into tight, adhesively bonded relation with the frame member at the desired location. The guiding apparatus is removable to allow selection and installation of an appropriate guiding apparatus configured to accept the cross-sectional size and shape of the particular frame member to which it is desired to apply tape. A wall acts as a stop to align the tape with the frame member. When the tape from a particular roll has been exhausted, the remaining core can be pushed past the wall into a recess to allow advancement of the next available roll into position.

摘要： Improved insulation segments for fluid conduits such as pipes and ducts, having a non-tacky moisture resistant strip which extends along edges of the insulation which are adapted to be secured to other portions of the insulation, or to other insulation segments using a pressure sensitive, adhesive tape. This strip preferably comprises a cured adhesive which bonds to the paper or other surface to which it is applied which provides a good, dry, dirt free, smooth surface to which the pressure sensitive adhesive tape will strongly adhere. This strip may also comprise a layer of a plastic or a layer of a metal foil. A tape construction is also disclosed incorporating a non-tacky, moisture resistant strip which can be applied to insulation segments. This tape construction provides both a temporary closure and a permanent closure.

The covering typically includes a central fabric layer, such as a woven high density polyethylene fabric surrounded by structures having layers of alternating metal containing foils and puncture resistant polymers. The structures may be bonded to the central fabric layer by a polymer extrusion, such as a low density polyethylene extrusion. An acceptable metal-containing foil may includes aluminum foil, and the puncture resistant polymer may be polyester. The resulting covering may be cut with a hand-held implement, such as scissors or a knife or the like, may be formed into desired shapes manually and will retain the desired shape once formed. The overall thickness of the covering typically is no greater than about 350 microns.

摘要： An insulation system for pipes which includes a segment of insulation which is split along its length for application to the pipe, and which is sealed against itself around the pipe by a flap overlapping the slit and extending along the length of the segment. The inside surface of the flap is provided with a strip of pressure sensitive adhesive which extends to the outer edge of the flap and which seals the flap against the outer surface of the insulation segment. A release liner is provided in contact with the adhesive layer. The release liner extends from the outer edge of the flap inwardly to and beyond the inner edge of the strip of adhesive. The release liner overlies a non-adhesive strip adjacent the adhesive strip a distance sufficient to allow the release liner to be grasped by a gloved hand for removal thereof in extreme weather conditions.

摘要： A tape structure and/or closure system particularly useful with cylindrical insulation segments for pipes. The tape structure provides both a temporary and a permanent closure. The tape structure includes a substrate and a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on both sides of the substrate. One of the layers of pressure sensitive adhesive is covered by a release liner, while the other layer of pressure sensitive adhesive is exposed. The exposed layer of pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to one of either the underside of a flap covering a slit in the insulation jacket, or to the outer surface of the insulation jacket. The release liner is divided into two portions, one of which is narrow with respect to the other portion. The narrow portion of the release liner is removed, and a narrow strip of the second layer of pressure sensitive adhesive is attached to the other of either the outer surface of the jacket, or the underside of the flap to form a temporary closure. When it is desired to insert a pipe into the insulation segment, the temporary closure is broken by pulling the flap away from the insulation jacket. The pipe is then inserted, and a permanent closure is effected by removing the other portion of the release liner and attaching the second layer of pressure sensitive adhesive to the other of either the underside of the flap or the outer surface of the insulation jacket.
