    • A power management module for a winch system comprises an overload and low voltage interrupt module within a housing. The overload interrupt determines operating current for the winch system and provides an interrupt signal when the current is greater than a threshold. The low voltage interrupt determines voltage of a power source and provides an interrupt signal when the voltage is less than a threshold. A method of operating the power management module comprises determining operating current of the winch system with an overload interrupt module and voltage of a vehicle power source with a low voltage interrupt module. The overload and low voltage interrupt modules are located within a housing. The overload interrupt provides an interrupt signal when the operating current is greater than a threshold. The low voltage interrupt provides an interrupt signal when the voltage is less than a threshold.

    • A control system for a four wheel drive vehicle wherein the front wheels (or rear wheels in a conventional front wheel drive set up) are automatically engaged and disengaged from the vehicle drive train at both the transfer case and at the front wheel hubs. The engagement and disengagement at the transfer case is accomplished with conventional controls. The engagement and disengagement between the axles and wheel hubs is accomplished by providing concentric gear teeth portions in overlaping sections of the axle and wheel hub. A clutch ring with corresponding gear teeth is moved into and out of simultaneous engagement with the wheel hub and axle to lock them together. A pressure chamber having a movable wall associated with the clutch ring, is connected by an air line and control valve to the intake manifold of the vehicle's engine. A three-way valve selectively and alternatively opens the chamber to the manifold and to atmospheric pressure to thereby move the clutch ring between engagement and disengagement positions with the axle and hub. Atmospheric air is continuously provided to the clutch ring opposite the pressure chamber through a vent and powder metal filter.

    • An integrated wheel end for a vehicle is disclosed. The integrated wheel end has a hub rotatably mounted to a bearing pack. The integrated wheel end is secured to the vehicle by fastening the bearing pack to a knuckle of the vehicle. The integral hub has a spindle portion for receiving an end portion of a drive axle, a clutch housing for receiving a locking clutch mechanism and a flange for the mounting of a brake rotor and a vehicle supporting wheel. A locking hub clutch is mounted in the clutch housing and is selectively operated to provide unity of rotation between the axle and the hub or to provide independent rotation of the axle and the hub. The clutch housing is suited for installing different clutch mechanisms including manually operated and pressure operated either by negative or positive pressure. The integrated wheel end has a sealed defined cavity and an air circuit for the introduction or withdrawal of air to operated the pressure operated clutch mechanisms. A manual override feature may be provided with the pressure operated clutch mechanisms to operate the clutch mechanisms manually in the event of air circuit failure.

    • A retainer for preventing rotation of a spindle nut relative to a wheel spindle. The retainer engages a key way of the spindle and a groove of the spindle nut to prevent rotation of the spindle nut relative to the spindle. The retainer has a semi-circular body that surrounds the end of the spindle. The retainer has a radially inward projecting tab and an axially extending leg from the tab that engages the key way. The leg in addition to engaging the key way engages the groove of the spindle nut. The spindle nut preferably includes a recess in which the body portion of the retainer is nested.
