    • A novel washing machine and a novel method for washing clothes. Depending on the type of cloth to be washed, one of four washing modes is selected. A pulsator and a spin-dry tub rotate in various directions and speeds depending on the wash mode selected. Thus causes varying degree of agitation during the wash cycle. A power switching motor controls a brake and a clutch to cause the pulsator and the spin-dry tub to rotate depending on the wash mode selected. Thus, the pulsator and the spin-dry tub are capable of rotating either forward, backward, agitate in both directions, or not to rotate the tub at all depending on the wash mode selected.

    • A push button designed such that it is not damaged or broken even when an excessive external force is applied. The push button includes a control panel having a seat depression and a switch controlling a function. A button unit is seated in the seat depression so as to be movable by a predetermined distance. A push unit passes through the seat depression and moves by a force transmitted from the button unit to push the switch. The push button also has first and second springs having different spring constants. When a normal external force is applied, the second having a smaller spring constant, is elastically compressed to turn the switch on or off. When an excessive external force is applied, the first and second springs are elastically compressed to absorb external force, thus preventing components, such as the switch, from being damaged or broken.

    • A maximum power point tracking method is provided. The method includes temporarily determining a next voltage command using voltage and power measured at current and previous time points. When an increase or decrease in voltage command is continued predetermined times or more, it is decided that the next voltage command temporarily determined to be increased is decreased or that the next voltage command temporarily determined to be decreased is increased. The output voltage of a solar cell is regulated based on the decided next voltage command.
