    • An integrated physical sensor grid system includes a plurality of nodes, a processor, and a computing device. One or more nodes consisting of electrical contacts and one or more sensors to detect electrical properties at each electrical contact are connected to a processor. The computing device is configured to display instructions to a user. The processor and mobile computing measure and compares readings of the one or more sensors against expected values indicated in the lesson plan. The computing device is configured to display results to the user in response to the comparison of readings against expected progress. The lesson plan consists of instructions and expected values to verify. The lesson plan may be shared by access to a database.

    • An ad hoc imaging capability allows a plurality of mobile devices to render an ad hoc image at a venue, such as a sports arena. A mobile ad hoc image (“MAHI”) application can be downloaded to the spectators' mobile devices prior to the event. Seat location of a user is used by the MAHI application to select and display an image, which is a pixel of the ad hoc image. The ad hoc image can be animated or static. An authoring tool allows creation of an ad hoc image data structure whereby a previously created image or animation is mapped to the venue seating configuration. The ad hoc image data can be downloaded to, and cached by, the mobile device along with downloading the application, or the ad hoc image data can be streamed to the mobile device when the ad hoc image is to be displayed.

    • One embodiment relates to an apparatus for remote classification of malware. Computer-readable code is configured to be executed by the processor so as to receive a locality-sensitive hash (LSH) value associated with a file from a host computer via the network interface, determine whether the LSH value associated with the file is similar to a LSH value in an entry in an LSH data structure, and indicate that the file is a variant of known malware associated with the entry if the LSH value associated with the file is similar to the LSH value in the entry. Another embodiment relates to a method for remote classification of malware. Another embodiment relates to an apparatus configured to determine whether a file includes malware. Another embodiment relates to a method for detecting malware within an institutional network. Other embodiments, aspects and features are also disclosed.

    • Methods for pre-processing video sequences prior to compression to provide data reduction of the video sequence. Also, after compression of the pre-processed video sequence, the bit rate of the pre-processed and compressed video sequence will be lower than the bit rate of the video sequence after compression but without pre-processing. Pre-processing may include spatial anisotropic diffusion filtering such as Perona-Malik filtering, Fallah-Ford filtering, or omni-directional filtering that extends Perona-Malik filtering to perform filtering in at least one diagonal direction. Pre-processing may also include performing filtering differently on a foreground region than on a background region of a video frame. This method includes identifying pixel locations having pixel values matching characteristics of human skin and determining a bounding shape for each contiguous grouping of matching pixel locations. The foreground region is comprised of pixel locations contained in a bounding shape and the background region is comprised of all other pixel locations.
