摘要： A method for pseudo-randomly, without bias, selecting instructions for marking in a microprocessor. Responsive to reading an instruction from an instruction cache, an instruction tag associated with the instruction is compared against a pseudo-randomly generated value in a linear feedback shift register (LFSR). If the instruction tag matches the value in the LFSR, a mark bit, indicating the instruction is a marked instruction, is sent with the instruction to an execution unit. Responsive to an indication from the performance monitor, the value in the LFSR is incremented prior to selecting a next instruction to mark. If the value equals a predetermined prime number of increments, the value is reset to all ones to avoid any harmonics with the code stream being executed. Upon receiving the marked instruction, the execution unit combines the marked bit with a selected event and reports the marked event to the performance monitor.

The reformatted dispatch groupings can be terminated after a single cycle, or they can remain reformatted for as many cycles as desired, depending upon need.

摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for dispatch group checkpointing in a microprocessor, including provisions for handling partially completed dispatch groups and instructions which modify system coherent state prior to completion. An instruction checkpoint retry mechanism is implemented to recover from soft errors in logic. The processor is able to dispatch fixed point unit (FXU), load/store unit (LSU), and floating point unit (FPU) or vector multimedia extension (VMX) instructions on the same cycle. Store data is written to a store queue when a store instruction finishes executing. The data is held in the store queue until the store instruction is checkpointed, at which point it can be released to the coherently shared level 2 (L2) cache.

摘要： A sealer for a sample testing instrument is disclosed that cuts and seals a fluid conduit that connects a test sample device with a fluid receptacle containing a fluid sample. The sealer includes an enclosure and a protective shield to protect a user or technician from contact with the cutting element assembly in the sealer. The cutting element assembly includes a spring-loaded element that engages the test sample device and holds it in a fixed position while a cutting element (e.g., hot wire) cuts the fluid conduit. A motor driving the cutting element assembly is positioned at an angle having both vertical and horizontal components, whereby adjustment of the motor firmware allows for adjustment of the position of the cutting element relative to the instrument in both horizontal and vertical directions.

The sensor array is formed by cross-points of two sets of crossing conductive lines, one set being driven sequentially with a radio frequency square wave and the other set being sampled sequentially though a high impedance amplifier connection with an asynchronous detection circuit. 摘要： A transport system is provided for a sample testing machine. The transport system includes a carrier holding a set of test sample devices and a drive subsystem for moving the carrier through the sample testing machine. The drive subsystem includes a reciprocating motor-driven block engaging the carrier and moving the carrier back and forth in a predetermined longitudinal path extending along a longitudinal axis from an entrance station to a plurality of processing stations in the sample testing machine. The processing stations are accessed as the carrier is moved along the path. The carrier includes features in the form of slots that are detected by strategically placed optical interrupt sensors. As the carrier moves, the slots are detected by the sensors to thereby continuously track the position of the carrier and the test devices as they are moved through the instrument.
