    • There are disclosed a printing method and apparatus which can prevent an overcoat layer formed on the surface of a printing medium for the purpose of protecting a printed image from being torn off or peeling from the printing medium so that an overcoat agent will not become a contaminant and stain a print in the printing apparatus, cause image print abnormality, or become fine or powder dust in the environment. This apparatus prints an image on a printing medium having perforations that allow easy cutoff of margin portions by applying ink to the printing medium across the perforations, and forms a protection layer on the printing medium on which the image has been formed by transferring a protection agent avoiding the perforation portions.

    • Image reading apparatus having a D/A converter with a controllable output includes a light source for illuminating an original image. A reading device is provided for photoelectrically reading the original image illuminated by the light source and generating an analog image signal. A D/A converter is provided having a digital input terminal, an analog output terminal, and a reference terminal. The analog image signal generated from the reading device is applied to the reference terminal. The D/A converter attenuates the level of the analog image signal applied to the reference terminal based on a damping factor corresponding to the digital data applied to the digital input terminal. The thus-attenuated analog image signal is then output to the analog output terminal. An amplifier is provided for amplifying the attenuated analog image signal output from the analog output terminal of the D/A converter. An A/D converter is provided for converting the amplified analog image signal output from the amplifier into a digital image signal. Control circuitry is provided for controlling the digital data applied to the digital input terminal of the D/A converter to cause the analog image signal supplied to the A/D converter to have a predetermined level. This provides an analog image signal having a constant signal level even when the brightness of the light source, (e.g., a fluorescent lamp) varies widely.

    • A liquid accommodating container having a configuration that allows ink to be substantially used up, does not require an increase in size or a complicated construction, and can be fabricated at lower costs. The container includes an ink chamber for holding ink and having an upper air layer. A second chamber is provided in the upper air layer. A partition divides the second chamber into an ink absorber chamber that accommodates an ink absorber and a sub ink chamber for storing a small amount of ink. A third chamber defines a space between the atmosphere and the ink absorber. An upper portion of the sub ink chamber adjacent to the ink chamber is open so as to provide communication between the upper air layer and the atmosphere through the intermediary of the sub ink chamber and the ink absorber chamber in this order. An atmosphere communicating hole is defined. A print head that discharges ink of the ink chamber is provided at the bottom of the container.
