    • This invention relates to a color controlled light source comprising a plurality of colored light elements, and a plurality of (filtered) photo detectors, having different spectral characteristics covering all or most of the total spectrum of the light elements. The (filtered) photo detectors detect the light output of the light source, and generate corresponding detection signals. The light source further has a color control unit for generating driving signals to the light elements on the basis of the detection signals and a predetermined target color point of the light output of the light source, and a modulator for individual signature modulation of the driving signal to each one of said light elements. A corresponding demodulator is provided for demodulation of the detection signals and extraction, from each detection signal, of actual values of the light outputs of the light elements. The color control unit has means for determining the spectral output of each light element on basis of the actual values, means for determining an actual color point from said spectral outputs of all light elements, and means for comparing said target color point with said actual color point and, if there is a difference, adjusting said driving signals in order to minimize the difference.

    • The invention relates to a Magnetic memory system (1, 20) which comprises an information layer (13) and a sensor (2, 22) for cooperating with the information layer (13). The information layer (13) comprises a pattern of magnetic bits (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 24a, 24c, 24d) which constitutes an array of bit locations. A bit magnetic field (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) at a bit location represents a logical value (LO, L1/2, L1). The sensor (2, 22) comprises a magnetoresistive element (6, 26) comprising a fixed magnetic layer (7) and a free magnetic layer (8). The free magnetic layer (8) has a magnetization axis (10) along which the free magnetic layer retains a free magnetization direction (1 Ib, 1 Ic, 21b, 21c). A first bit magnetic field (3b, 3c) at one of the bit locations represents a first logical value (LO, L1/2, L1) by providing a first resistance value (Rmax, Rmid, Rmin) in the magnetoresistive element (6, 26) due to the free magnetization direction (1 Ic, 1 Ib, 21a, 21c) being substantially parallel to the magnetization axis (10). A second bit magnetic field (3a, 3d) at one of the bit locations represents a second logical value (LO, L1/2, L1) by providing a second resistance value (Rmax, Rmid, Rmin) in the magnetoresistive element (6, 26) due to the free magnetization direction (Ha, 1 Id, 21a, 2Id) having an angle (12a, 12d, 27) with the magnetization axis (10). The second bit magnetic field (3a, 3d) which provides the second resistance value (Rmax, Rmid, Rmin) is not one of the two stable magnetization directions of the free magnetic layer (8) and thus is different from the first resistance value (Rmax, Rmid, Rmin). The magnetization direction of the free magnetic layer (8) of the sensor (2, 22) no longer needs to be set before read-out.

    • A data processing circuit comprises an encoder circuit for encoding a data word, wherein each digit may have any one of three or more digit values. The data word is encoded so that digit counts in the data word satisfy predetermined criteria (the digit counts are counts of the numbers of the digits in the encoded data word that assume respective digit values). The encoder defines at least two digit maps, each digit map defining assignments of each of the available digit values to a respective different output digit value. The encoder selects at least two groups of digits within the input data word. Each group is associated with a respective one of the digit maps, the groups being selected so that when each digit map has been applied selectively to the digits from its associated group, digit counts of the number of times respective digit values occur in the data word will satisfy predetermined criteria. A data signal is generated that represents the input data word by information that identifies the selected groups and an output data word obtained by mapping the digits of each group in the input data word according to the digit map for that group.
