    • An apparatus is described for smoothing out the surface weight distribution of one or multilayer mats containing lignocellulose and/or cellulose with a binding agent dispersed therein for manufacturing of shaped articles, in particular in the form of wood chipboard, wood fiberboard or the like, wherein at least one vertically adjustable reverse brushing unit which extends over the width of the web is associated with a mat carrier which is fed via at least one scattering head. This apparatus is characterized, above all, by the reverse brushing unit comprising at least one vertically adjustable brushing roller having flexible bristles of a plastic material such as polypropylene, Teflon or the like which cooperates with a cleaning brush or a cleaning strip.

    • Particle boards are manufactured by the use of a forming line in which particulate material such as wood chips intermixed with a binder is deposited, in the form of a mat, by a scattering station 3 onto mat carriers moving on a forming conveyor 1 past the scattering station. The mat carriers are loaded by way of an accelerating conveyor 4 onto a faster moving storage conveyor 5 and are then stacked in the tiers of a vertically movable stacker loader 13 which in turn feeds a consolidation press for consolidating the mat sections into particle board. After the pressing operation the particle boards are ejected from the far side of the press and the now empty mat carriers are returned via the stacker-loader and a return conveyor 8 to a forwarding station 2 which feeds the mat carriers back onto the forming conveyor 1 for re-use.In a particularly preferred arrangement a pallet is provided in respect of each tier of the stacker-loader and the mat carriers are loaded onto the upper surface of the pallet and thereby introduced into the press. The pallet serves to eject the finished board from the far side of the press and to return the empty mat carrier which is slung beneath the pallet.

    • Particleboard is manufactured by scattering an endless mat of chip and binder material on a series of overlapped mat carriers 17 moving on a forming conveyor 2 beneath a scattering station 1. A cut-off saw 5 is then used to separate the endless mat into mat sections 18 each of which is mounted on a respective mat carrier 17. The overlap between the mat carriers is eliminated and the laden mat carriers are removed from the forming conveyor 2 by an accelerating conveyor 6 which simultaneously operates as an intermediate store and a feed unit for a single storey press 8 arranged immediately after the accelerating conveyor 6. The accelerating conveyor 6 introduces the laden mat carrier into the inlet to the press from where it is transported into the press by internal transport devices of the press. After the mat section has been pressed to form a particleboard a pair of driven rollers 9 extract the mat carrier from the press and feed it towards a separating wedge 10. The mat carrier is deflected downwardly onto a conveyor 11 and the pressed board slides over the top surface of the separating wedge through further rollers 15. As soon as the mat carrier is fully located on a guide conveyor 11 beneath the separating wedge 10 the guide conveyor is pivoted downwardly and its direction of rotation is reversed so that the mat carrier can be transferred to a return conveyor 16. The mat carrier is then transferred back onto the forming conveyor from the return conveyor at a feeding station 14 which also serves to overlap the mat carrier with the preceding mat carrier and to turn the mat carriers over prior to them once again passing through the scattering station 1.

    • A plant for the manufacture of chipboard, fibreboard or similar boards is described wherein mat sections coming from a stationary scattering section are supplied via an intermediate conveyor to a cyclically operating press with a loading and unloading device, and wherein an arrangement is provided for returning mat carriers separated at the press outlet from the compressed mat sections. The mat sections are supplied to the intermediate conveyor from a forming band via a transfer table which variably overlaps the intermediate conveyor. This intermediate conveyor simultaneously serves as a supply unit for the mat carriers which are provided with laterally engageable head strips. The loading and unloading device of the press includes transport devices which extend on both sides of the press and cooperate with the head strips of the mat carriers. The transport devices extend, over a part of their length, parallel to and alongside the corresponding transport devices of the intermediate conveyor. A mat carrier transfer station between the transport devices of the loading and unloading device and the transport devices of the intermediate conveyor is provided beneath the conveying plane for the mat sections.
