    • A puller for removing an object from a shaft including first and second collars movable relative to one another along an axis, at least two circumferentially spaced clamping jaws pivotally supported at one end to the first collar and having means at the other end for grasping the object, at least two circumferentially spaced links, each of the links being pivotally supported at one end to the second collar and pivotally supported at the other end to an associated clamping jaw, and a drive structure for moving the collars together along the axis away from the shaft. A threaded rod is fixed to the second collar, and a nut receives the threaded rod and is secured against axial movement toward the shaft relative to the first collar. The nut may be turned to move the threaded rod and second collar axially relative to the first collar. The clamping jaws may include bidirectional claws for selective use, with the collars and links being positionable to permit the axial spacing from the first collar to be selectively less than or greater than the axial spacing between the collars. An axially extending pusher is secured to one of the collars and has an end engageable with an end of the shaft. Either manual or hydraulic cylinder drives, or a combination thereof, biases the pusher relative to the collars for removal of a grasped object from an engaged shaft.

    • The invention provides a tool for aligning a clutch plate with a pressure plate. The tool includes an externally threaded tube having an adjustable clamping member engaged therewith for axial movement relative thereto. The tube comprises a stepped bore including a step between bore portions of differing diameter. An axially slideable bolt passes through the tube and has a nut at one end and a head at the other end. An elongate insert extends into the bore, and at one end thereof abuts against the step within the bore. The other end of said insert is formed as an enlarged deformable portion and is adapted to be radially expanded by the head of the bolt being drawn into it when the nut is tightened.

    • A bar-type puller having a cross block with a central section and a pair of end sections with a forcing screw threadably mounted in the central section. A pair of work-engaging members, such as pulling jaws, can be radially and axially adjustably mounted on the cross block by end sections of the cross block having spaced-apart arms to define spaces therebetween which receive the work-engaging members for infinite lateral adjustment along the arms. The work-engaging members have spaced-apart pins which span the top and bottom of the arms, with a slight clearance to facilitate lateral adjustment. The pins are caused to move into binding relation with the cross block when the work-engaging members are under load to lock the members in radially adjusted position. There is also provision for axial adjustment by providing additional spaced pins on the work-engaging members providing an alternate mounting location for the members to the cross block.

The two frame members are interconnected through a pivotal bracket carried by the outside frame member.     • A combination bearing removal and installation tool provides for the removal and installation of an annular bearing assembly from and in a spindle-receiving bore of a strut type vehicle wheel spindle supporting system without the need to disassemble any of the supporting system from the vehicle. The tool comprises a threaded shaft having a head at one end and a cup threaded onto the shaft from the other end. In the bearing removal mode of operation the open end of the cup faces the head end so that when the head is actuated to remove a bearing from the bore the bearing passes into the cup. In the bearing installation mode of operation the cup is reversed on the shaft so that an end wall of the cup bears against the end of the bore. This end of the cup comprises at least one frusto-conically tapered surface seating the cup against a corresponding tapered surface at the end of the bore and a locator projects from the end of the cup to be abutted by a set of bearings being installed thereby accurately locating the bearings when the head of the shaft is actuated to advance a new set of bearings into the bore. The tool can also be used to press a wheel spindle into a newly installed set of bearings.

    • An adaptor plate for use in removal and installation of ball joints from a knuckle and a tool kit including the same. The plate includes elongated, arcuate slots arcuately arranged in the form of a circle for adjustable receipt of threaded studs on a knuckle so that the plate may be secured to the knuckle. The plate is further provided with a pair of oppositely located slots so that when the plate is secured to the knuckle, one of the slots will be adjacent one ball joint on the knuckle and the other slot will be adjacent the other ball joint. As a result, the slots may receive the jaws of a pulling tool for both ball joint removal and insertion operations without requiring reorientation of the plate on a knuckle between the two operations. The tool kit includes the foregoing adaptor plate along with a puller and a threaded pressure applying member which may alternately receive a first head for driving ball joints from the knuckle, a second head having a cavity for pushing ball joints into the knuckle and an aligning nut for use in either of the operations.
