    • A mounting device for coaxially anchoring a machine element upon a rotary shaft is provided. The device fits between the interior bore of the machine element and the cylindrical surface of the shaft and is effective to position the element at any desired position longitudinally of the shaft and at any angular position circumferentially of the shaft. The device has inner and outer sleeves, the mating surfaces of which are similarly tapered so that relative axial displacement of the sleeves affects expansion and contraction of the interior bore and external surface of the combined elements. Rotation of a threaded nut at one end of the device effects the relative axial displacement of the inner and outer sleeves to afford expansion and contraction of the sleeves without excessively straining the material of the sleeves or the nut.

    • An internal conical connecting device for connecting machine components comprising an inner bushing with a first set of parallel conical grooves, and an outer bushing with a corresponding second set of parallel conical grooves. The first and second sets of parallel conical grooves are engageable for wedging a hub into locking connection with a shaft upon axial movement of the outer bushing relative to the inner bushing. The first and second sets of parallel conical grooves have symmetrical segments removed to facilitate assembly and disassembly of the connecting device. A flat ring or integral flange is fixed to the inner bushing, and threaded members extend between the flat ring and the outer bushing. The flat ring and the threaded members are used to axially displace the inner and outer bushings relative to each other and generate a strong normal force for clamping and supporting the connected hub on the shaft. The inner and outer bushings have an axial split for reducing stiffness and allowing the bushings to bridge a larger gap. The outer bushing can be a separate component, or integral with a hollow output shaft of a shaft mounted gear reducer.

    • In order to secure the flywheel (5) of a motor vehicle friction clutch (3) to the output end of a crankshaft (23) of an internal combustion engine, it is proposed that the flywheel (5) is fastened to the output end of the crankshaft (23) by means of an axially detachable centric clamping arrangement (21). The flywheel (5) is hereby supported on a pipe end (37) of the crankshaft (23). Conical expansion elements (45), which may be axially displaced by means of a centric screw element (43) to generate radial clamping forces, are inserted into the centric cavity formed by the pipe end (37). The screw element (43) is structured in such a way that it may be screwed through the hub (27) of a clutch disc (9) of the friction clutch onto the crankshaft (23) by means of a screw attachment tool (51). The friction clutch (3) may thus be preassembled together with the flywheel (5) to form a structural unit before it is secured to the crankshaft (23) .

    • A mounting device for mounting a machine element to a shaft, particularly in critical timing and high torque applications, is specifically adapted to be frequently assembled and disassembled without coming apart or in any way adversely affecting the operation of the mounting device. The mounting device includes an inner tubular element, an outer segmented tubular element, and a tubular nut. A through extending radial opening is provided in each segment of the outer element, and a circumferential groove in the outer surface of the inner element with first and second axially spaced radially extending walls. A collar (which may be the hub of a sprocket, gear, cam, pulley, roller, or other machine element) surrounds the outer element at the radial openings, and has its own radial openings through which a plurality of fasteners extend into the inner element circumferential groove, and are engageable with the radially extending walls to provide a stop for relative axial movement of the inner and outer elements with respect to each other. A disc connected to the nut allows the nut to be tightened without a wrench.

    • A device for coupling a shaft and the hub of a machine element such as a pulley or gear for joint rotation, includes annular outer and inner wedges each of which has angularly spaced longitudinal slots, and ribs aligned with the slots.
