    • A two-stage air-hydraulic booster having two pumping chambers, with one being a relatively large-volume, low-pressure chamber and the other a relatively small-volume, high-pressure chamber and with both chambers being formed, in part, by pumping structure carried by an air-operated piston. The ratio of the area of the air-operated piston to the area of the hydraulic cylinder for the large-volume, low-pressure chamber is relatively low whereby a large volume of fluid per inch of stroke is delivered to the system while the ratio of the area of the airoperated piston to the area of the high-pressure, small-volume chamber is high to deliver a small volume of fluid per inch of stroke of the air-operated piston. The structure provides for minimal consumption of operating air in both advancing the movable air-operated piston in a pumping stroke and in return of the air-operated piston to an initial position.

    • An adaptor plate for use in removal and installation of ball joints from a knuckle and a tool kit including the same. The plate includes elongated, arcuate slots arcuately arranged in the form of a circle for adjustable receipt of threaded studs on a knuckle so that the plate may be secured to the knuckle. The plate is further provided with a pair of oppositely located slots so that when the plate is secured to the knuckle, one of the slots will be adjacent one ball joint on the knuckle and the other slot will be adjacent the other ball joint. As a result, the slots may receive the jaws of a pulling tool for both ball joint removal and insertion operations without requiring reorientation of the plate on a knuckle between the two operations. The tool kit includes the foregoing adaptor plate along with a puller and a threaded pressure applying member which may alternately receive a first head for driving ball joints from the knuckle, a second head having a cavity for pushing ball joints into the knuckle and an aligning nut for use in either of the operations.

    • A manually operable high pressure release valve in a high fluid pressure system such as an air operated hydraulic pump. The release valve includes a manually operable pilot poppet valve disposed within a larger, manually operable poppet valve, the two poppet valves having a single manual actuator. Release of high pressure is allowed with a minimum of manual effort by first bleeding off a portion of the fluid under high pressure through opening of the pilot poppet valve until the pressure is reduced to a level whereat the larger poppet valve will easily open.

    • A tool for assembly and disassembly of a limited slip differential including a step plate engageable against one side gear of the differential, an internally-threaded member engageable against the other side gear of the differential, a forcing screw threadable into the threaded member and engageable with the step plate whereby rotation of the forcing screw forces increased separation of the side gears relative to each other by compressing of a Belleville spring between each side gear and the differential case to free the pinion mate gears for inward movement to remove washers associated therewith, and a handle member connected to the internally-threaded member extendable outwardly of the differential case and provided with a pawl engageable with a tooth on a side gear to result in rotation of the engaged side gear and a pair of pinion mate gears of the differential to cause the latter to walk on the other side gear until the pinion mate gears are positioned for removal through openings in the differential case, with the rotation of the handle being about an axis defined by the forcing screw, together with a method of disassembling a limited slip differential by use of a tool as described above.
