    • A toroidal semifinished product (5) made of raw elastomeric material is semivulcanized in a semivulcanization chamber (4) defined between two half-molds (2, 3) disposed close to each other. A pressure, preferably equal to the pressure exerted by the gases generated in the semifinished product (5), is created in the mold (1a). The half-molds (2, 3) are moved apart from each other and pressure in the mold is gradually reduced, thereby giving rise to the expansion and consequent transferring of the semifinished product (5) from the semivulcanization chamber (4) to a surrounding final vulcanization chamber (6). When the inner diameter of the semifinished product (5) is larger than the inner diameter of the final vulcanization chamber (6), said chamber is closed at its inner circumferential edge and then, after possible pressure increase in the mold, at its outer circumferential edge, in order to integrally enclose the semifinished product and enable completion of the vulcanization process.

    • This relates to a mold for rebonding polyurethane and like plastic foam to form selected shapes. A typical shape may be a back or a seat member for an article of furniture. The mold is improved in that the bottom mold member, which is particularly designed in accordance with the desired configuration of the shape, has been formed of epoxy which is readily moldable at a low cost. The mold is also improved by providing the base plate of the mold with a ramped floor which facilitates the drainage of condensate from a lower steam chamber. The configuration of the ramped floor allows for quick removal of the condensate and serves to reduce the volume in the steam chamber thereby minimizing pressure build-up in the steam chamber. This results in lower steam pressures being used during the curing process and for a shorter curing operation. The lower steam pressure also avoids leakage of steam and water from the epoxy mold.

    • A device for executing a method of molding expandable thermoplastic polymer beads in a mold to form articles of foamed material comprising: pulsing steam through at least one of the cavities to contact and expand the beads in the cavity for a finite period of time and drawing the steam amongst the beads by providing reduced pressure to at least one of the cavities for the same period of time; and pulsing mist through the expanded beads by providing mist to at least one of the cavities and drawing the mist through the expanded beads by providing reduced pressure to at least one of the cavities for the finite period of time of predetermined duration to form articles of foamed material. The device for molding beads of expandable polystyrene into articles comprises: a mold member mounted to a platen to form a cavity between the mold and platen, core vents formed in the mold, means for introducing steam into the cavity, means for applying reduced pressure to the cavity, and means for introducing mist into the cavity.
