    • A self-injection device (101) for delivering a medicament includes a housing (111), and a needle (103) connected to the housing (111). A compressible reservoir (121) is connected to the housing (111) and is in fluid communication with a needle (103) such that compressing the reservoir (121) delivers medicament from the reservoir (121) to the needle (103) and moves the needle (103) from the first position to the second position. A platform (171) is disposed within the housing (111) about which the housing (111) is rotatable between a plurality of positions. Each of the positions corresponds to a different distance the needle (103) is moved to the second position during an injection to provide a variable injection depth. The needle (103) is withdrawn into the housing (111) after an injection without requiring manual manipulation by the user, thereby preventing needle sticks and other accidents.

    • The present invention relates to a disposable injection device for delivering a dose of medicament, comprising a generally elongated housing (10), a container (14) containing medicament to be injected through a needle (16), force means (34) acting on said container and capable of, upon activation, move said container and said needle for penetration and subsequently expelling medicament through said needle, activating means (26) arranged to activate said force means, characterized in that said activating means comprises a needle shield (12) arranged slidable in relation to said housing, a collapsible holding member (58) connected to the inner end of said needle shield, whereby, upon movement of said needle shield, said collapsible holding member collapses when a certain force is applied by the needle shield, and whereby further movement of said needle shield activates said activation means, which in turn releases said force means initiating an injection of medicament.

    • An automatic fluid injector (10, 66, or 76) having a coolant-absorbent pad (24) for pressing onto a tissue site for desensitization. When the injector (10, 66, 76) is pressed further toward the tissue site, the contained fluid is pressurized, and an enclosed needle (16) moves distally to penetrate a distal wall of injector (10, 66, 76). While needle (16) is being repositioned distally, the pressurized fluid is blocked from flowing into needle (16). The fluid blockage prevents the fluid from inadvertently warming the cold, desensitizing pad (24) and causing the patient to experience pain during needle (16) penetration. When needle (16) penetrates to a preset depth, and is sealed in the tissues, then the pressurized fluid is unblocked, and flows automatically through needle (16). In another embodiment, an instrument (46) having a coolant-absorbent felt (52) is able to unobstructably desensitize tissues prior to penetration with sharps.
