    • An assembly (20) is used with an anti-lock braking system (10) and an associated method. The assembly (20) includes a circuit board (30), a motor (40), a hydromechanical block (50), a lead frame (60), and a plurality of solenoid coils (70). The circuit board (30) integrates the electronics of the anti-lock braking system (10). The motor (40) provides pressurized fluid to the anti-lock braking system (10). The motor (40) is connected to the circuit board (30). The hydromechanical block (50) has a through bore (52). The lead frame (60) has a built-in connector (61) extending through the through bore (52) to the circuit board (30). The plurality of solenoid coils (70) controls flow of the pressurized fluid through the hydromechanical block (50). Each of the plurality of solenoid coils (70) is connected to the lead frame (60) such that the plurality of solenoid coils (70) is electrically connected to the circuit board (30) by the built-in connector (61) of the lead frame (60).

    • A braking system includes a master cylinder that is operational to introduce a manually effected braking pressure in the braking system and includes a wheel brake that is responsive to the manually effected braking pressure. A modulator is interconnected in the braking system between the master cylinder and the wheel brake and includes a pump that has an inlet and an outlet wherein the inlet is in continuous open fluid communication with the wheel brake through a first fluid passageway. The first fluid passageway is free of any flow restrictive orifices and the first fluid passageway is not in fluid communication with an accumulator. The modulator also includes a normally open valve that is positioned in a second fluid passageway and the second fluid passageway extends between the wheel brake and both the pump outlet and the master cylinder. During base brake operation of the braking system, the pump and the valve remain unoperated so that the manually effected pressure is freely transmitted to the wheel brake. During ABS release operation, the pump is turned on and the valve is energized to close, blocking the second fluid passageway so that a reduced wheel brake fluid pressure is effected at the wheel brake and a rate of reduction of the wheel brake pressure is established that is directly proportional to, and from a mechanical effect standpoint, is a result solely of pump flow rate.

A series of valve mounting bores to house a maximum of eight valves are arranged in lattice-fashion on one planar surface of the housing. Depending on the brake circuit configuration, four or six electromagnetically-actuated valves are mounted in the valve mounting bores, and one or two pressure control valves, actuated by the pressure of the brake fluid within the brake lines, are mounted in the remaining valve mounting bores. This provides an antilock brake device in which the solenoid valves and pressure control valves are mounted within the same housing, thereby increasing the commonalty of the housing for different types of brake circuits to produce a more compact, more lightweight, and less expensive device.

    • An anti-lock brake system control valve having a removable coil support module mounted upon a valve body is disclosed. The module is divided into a first portion which carries solenoid coils for actuating valves in the valve body and a second sealed portion which carries an external electrical connector. The solenoid coils have lead wires extending into the second sealed portion where the lead wires are electrically joined to the external connector. The electrical connector connects the control valve to other electrical components of the anti-lock brake system. The module is readily accessible and removable for servicing. The module is separated from the brake system hydraulic circuit and can be removed from the valve body without disruption of the hydraulic circuit.
