摘要： An integrate device includes a heater thermally coupled to a plurality of flow-through tubes to perform thermally-driven chemical reactions. A wire mesh heater is wrapped around each of multiple flow-through tubes, thereby creating a thermal interface between the mesh and the tubes. Each end of the wire mesh is coupled to an electrical contact. The electrical contacts are preferable positioned at an exterior portion of the integrated device to be easily placed in electrical contact with a voltage source. As current passes through the mesh, heat is produced. The heat passes from the mesh to each of the flow-through tubes via the thermal interface. The flow-through tubes can be fluidically coupled to a sample preparation module. The sample preparation module, the flow-through tubes, and the heater can be integrated within a single integrated device that provides automated sample preparation and thermally-driven chemical reactions for a variety of applications.

摘要： An apparatus for synthesizing polymer chains includes a controller, a plurality of precision fit vials circularly arranged in multiple banks on a cartridge, a drain corresponding to each bank of vials, a chamber bowl, a plurality of valves for delivering reagents to selective vials, and a waste tube system for purging material from the vials. A purging operation can be selectively performed on one or more of the banks of vials. The multiple banks of valves provide an additional number of reagent choices while operating in a serial mode and faster reagent distribution while operating in a parallel mode. The plurality of vials are stored in the cartridge and are divided among individual banks wherein each bank of vials has a corresponding drain. There is at least one waste tube system for expelling the reagent solution from vials within a particular bank of vials when the waste tube system is coupled to the corresponding drain. The cartridge holding the plurality of vials rotates relative to the stationary banks of valves and the waste tube system. The controller rotates the cartridge and operates the banks of valves and the waste tube system in response to the required sequence of dispensing various reagent solutions and flushing appropriate vials in order to form the desired polymer chain within each vial.

摘要： The present invention relates to methods for monitoring in a high through-put fashion a multitude of molecular reaction processes, using a substrate, said substrate comprising a plurality of micro-channels, wherein each micro-channel has inlet and outlet open ends on opposing sides of said substrate, and wherein said micro-channels comprise at least one first reaction component, comprising the steps of: (a) contacting said micro-channels of said solid substrate with a sample, said contacting being via said inlet open ends, wherein said sample comprises an analyte, under conditions that allow said analyte to be specifically retained within said micro-channels by said first reaction component; (b) optionally removing excess of sample via said outlet open ends; (c) contacting the retained analyte with at least one second reaction component, said second reaction component being different from said first reaction component as defined in step (a), under conditions that allow a molecular reaction to take place, said reaction producing a signal; (d) detecting said signal and reading-out reaction results; (e) removing second reaction components via said outlet open ends; (f) repeating steps (c) to (e) at least once, wherein said at least one second reaction component as defined in (c) may be changed in composition; and, final detecting and reading-out of reaction results. The present invention also relates to the uses thereof as well as to microarrays and kits for performing said methods of the invention.

In one embodiment, an integrated combinatoric mixing chip allows for precise metering of reagents to rapidly create a large number of potential crystallization conditions, with possible crystal formations observed on chip. In an alternative embodiment, the microfluidic structures may be utilized to explore phase space conditions of a particular protein crystallizing agent combination, thereby identifying promising conditions and allowing for subsequent focused attempts to obtain crystal growth.
