    • A location-based game system is provided. Such a system may take the form of any device (e.g., a wireless telephone) that includes a locating device (e.g., a GPS system). One such location-based game may operate such that the actual, physical location of a user on a physical playfield corresponds to the location of a virtual character on a virtual playfield. Such location based games are referred to herein as actuality games. In one multiplayer actuality embodiment, two game devices may communicate location, and other, information to a remote database such that the two user's may interact on different physical playfields, but play on the same virtual playfield. A number of wireless communications protocols, self-configuration, and auto-download software applications are also provided to optimize integration with, for example, a wireless telephone.

    • Methods and apparatus for implementing peer-to-peer relay. In one implementation, a method of building a redundancy list in a peer system in a peer-to-peer relay network includes: receiving a first message including first identification information at a first peer system from a second peer system connected to said first peer system in a peer-to-peer relay network; storing said first identification information; receiving a second message including second identification information at said first peer system from a third peer system connected to said first peer system in said peer-to-peer relay network; comparing said second identification information with said first identification information; building a redundancy update message; and sending said redundancy update message to said third peer system.

    • A function for exchanging a game item for other unpredictable game item is provided so that a game is given an unpredictable aspect. For game item exchange, a bottle mail function is provided. In order to apply the bottle mail function, two game devices are connected for communication via a communication cable, and so on; one of the game items owned by its own game character is designated; and game item specifying information specifying the designated game item is exchanged between two game devices. While using the game item specified by the game item specifying information obtained from the other game device as an exchange source game item, an exchange object game item correlated with that exchange source game item is read from the item exchange table. The player character then owns the game item read in the place of the game item originally designated for the exchange.
