    • A planetary gear system employs a retarder to provide fluid coupling of power during startup and fluid braking during deceleration. At idle with the output shaft stationary, an input shaft rotates in one direction and the retarder rotates in the opposite traction. When the retarder is activated by adding working fluid, the resultant torque coupled to the output shaft rotates the output shaft in the same direction as the input shaft. The retarder rotor can be mechanically braked to produce a first mechanical gear. Further coupling rotates the input shaft, output shaft and retarder rotor at the same speed in the same direction to form a second mechanical gear. Hydrodynamic braking can be performed in the second mechanical gear by adding working fluid to the retarder. A control system is disclosed which varies the level of working fluid during acceleration to a value which permits the input shaft to rotate at a required value regardless of the acceleration input signal. In addition, acceleration can be controlled proportionally to the output shaft speed. At a predetermined value of output speed, the retarder is automatically drained in order to take advantage of mechanical gearing. During braking, the level of fluid in the retarder is varied to provide a braking torque proportional to the braking signal.

    • The invention relates to a spur-gear system for driving a roll shell which bears an outer gear-wheel on one of its ends. The roll shell and the outer gear-wheel are monted via a common self-aligning bearing which is disposed concentrically within the outer gear-wheel. A pinion gear-wheel meshing with the outer gear-wheel is also mounted via a self-aligning bearing disposed concentrically within it. Both self-aligning bearings are mounted on the same support in the form of a cap. The outer gear-wheel and the pinion gear-wheel each have an abutment rim on one side. The contact surfaces thereof roll against each other during normal operation so that the axes of the two gear-wheels are parallel with each other. A geared coupling shaft driving the pinion gear-wheel is inclined in such a way that the pitching moment acting on the pinion keeps the two abutment rims in contact with each other.

    • The invention is directed to a sickleless internal gear pump with an internal ring gear and a pinion meshing with the ring gear. The ring gear has radial apertures for the medium being pumped, and sealing elements radially movably disposed in an appropriate profile groove, and inserted in respective tooth heads of the ring gear, or in the tooth heads of the pinion. The sealing elements are able to slide on the opposite tooth heads of the pinion, or of the ring gear. The head shape of the sealing element and the shape of the tooth space bottom of the ring gear, or of the pinion, are configured such that the sealing element establishes a seal between the pressure space and the suction space in the area of dead center.
