    • A paper machine headbox vane has a vane component (2) and a pivot member (3) connected together with anchoring elements (4), which pass through holes (5, 6a, 6b) provided in both components (2, 3). The vane (1) is fastened to a headbox engagement groove in the headbox by the pivot member (3) which has two or more pivot member elements (3a1, 3a2, 3a3) which have positioning holes for positioning the vane component (2) and the pivot member elements (3a1, 3a2, 3a3) in relation to each other.     • A method and device for drying a moving web including a first infrared radiator arranged on a first side of the web and a second infrared radiator arranged on a second side of the web at least partially opposite to the first infrared radiator and proximate to the first infrared radiator. The wavelength of the maximum intensity of the radiation generated by the first infrared radiator is shorter than the wavelength of the maximum intensity of the radiation generated by the second infrared radiator. The power density of the first infrared radiator is from about 450 kW per sq.m to about 700 kW per sq.m and the emitter temperature of the first infrared radiator is from about 2000.degree. C. to about 2800.degree. C. The second infrared radiator includes a surface layer made of a metal, metal alloy or ceramic material whose emissivity is substantially equal to or higher than about 0.6.

    • A non-woven fabric having a pattern defined by an array of discrete areas having a reduced fibre density but which are substantially free of perforations is produced by supporting a freshly wet laid web of the non-woven fabric on a porous surface and directing spaced jets of fluid against the unsupported side in order to displace fibres within discrete areas while maintaining in position a proportion of fibres that are within those areas and that are adjacent the porous surface. The fabric web may be supported on a Fourdrinier wire (1) and the jets of fluid (e.g. water) may be directed through the apertures in a perforated cylinder (6), the fluid being supplied under pressure from a water-knife device (11). The apertures in the cylinder (6) preferably have a cross-section that increases in the direction of the water jets. Vacuum may be applied through the Fourdrinier wire (1) by means of a vacuum box (10) and vacuum may also be applied within the cylinder (6) from means (17) in order to remove excess water from within the cylinder (6).

    • An apparatus is disclosed for drying a web of paper emerging from a press section of a papermaking machine. The apparatus includes a first dryer section for transferring the web from the press section to the first dryer section. A second dryer section is disposed downstream relative to the first dryer section for initiating the drying of a second side of the web. A first dryer transfer means transfers the web without open draw between the first and the second dryer sections. The first dryer transfer includes a downstream vacuum roll, a downstream felt roll and a felt extending between the downstream vacuum roll and the downstream felt roll such that the web is conveyed and disposed between the felt and the second dryer section. The second dryer section includes an upstream vacuum roll and an upstream felt roll and a further felt extending between the upstream felt roll and vacuum roll such that the felt and further felt define therebetween a first dryer transfer section for transferring the web without open draw, the first dryer transfer permitting both threading of the web without the assistance of threading ropes and the drying of both sides of the web.
