摘要： A hydrogen absorbing alloy is provided which is increased in reaction rate without being restricted in composition and which is unimpaired in the reversibility of reaction and hydrogen absorption-desorption cycle life characteristics. The alloy contains the phase of an intermetallic compound of the composition A5T19 wherein A is at least one element selected from the group consisting of La, Ce, Pr, Sm, Nd, Mm (misch metal), Y, Gd, Ca, Mg, Ti, Zr and Hf, and T is at least one element selected from the group consisting of B, Bi, Al, Si, Cr, V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sn and Sb. The alloy is produced by mixing together an alloy containing an AT3 phase and an alloy containing an AT4 phase, mechanically alloying the mixture to form the phase of intermetallic compound of the composition A5T19 in addition to the AT3 and AT4 phases, and subsequently mixing together or mechanically alloying the resulting alloy and an alloy containing AT5 phase.

摘要： A method of manufacturing a metal hydride alkaline storage cell includes a first step of preparing a negative electrode by applying a paste containing hydrogen absorbing alloy powder onto a substrate; and a second step of placing the negative electrode and a positive electrode into a cell can with disposing separator therebetween, and thereafter pouring an electrolyte into the cell can. Into the paste or the electrolyte, a catalytic metal compound that has a proportion of 0.1 to 2.5 wt. % based on the weight of the hydrogen-absorbing alloy powder and that is soluble in the electrolyte is added. Consequently, the catalytic action of the metal is fully utilized by this method that dots a catalytic metal or metal compound on the alloy surface, and thereby the inner pressure characteristic (high-rate charge characteristic) of a cell is improved.

摘要： A water-retaining layer is formed to coat the top of ribs of a ribbed plate which is to be disposed, as a component of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, on at least one surface of a cell which includes an electrolyte membrane and two electrodes disposed on two surfaces of the electrolyte membrane. The water-retaining layer is formed by: generating a mixture by dissolving a resin-carbon mixture into a solvent; applying the mixture using a spray to a surface of the ribbed plate having the ribs; and drying the applied mixture at a certain temperature. The ability to retain water in the water-retaining layer per unit active area of the electrodes is desirably in the range of 0.002 to 0.035 g/cm2, and more desirably, in the range of 0.01 to 0.03 g/cm2.

According to a first embodiment, the current collector of at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode comprises a plurality of current collector pieces 42 arranged along one direction and a PTC element 5 interconnecting each pair of adjacent current collector pieces 42. Alternatively with a second embodiment, at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode comprises a PTC element held between opposed faces of an uncoated portion of the current collector thereof and a base end portion of a current collector tab. The PTC element serves to prevent continuous occurrence of a current in excess of a predetermined value and realizes a high energy density.
