The system receives an indication of an attempt to initiate a call by a calling party which includes identifier information indicative of the called party, determines a calling party identifier to be conveyed to the called party based on the identifier information indicative of the called party and causes an appropriate calling party identifier to be conveyed in association with the initiated call.

The server system can combine user-provided profile information with other data to provide more detailed reports for the subscriber. The server can also be used to maintain long-term calling records for subscribers. The caller information can be accessed remotely by the subscriber and can be downloaded from the server to another computer for use with other applications.

The ENUM server stores a NAPTR resource record which includes a URI utilized for obtaining the predetermined information stored in the Web server. In the IP telephone system, the destination IP telephone apparatus transmits, to the ENUM server, a request for a NAPTR resource record of the source IP telephone apparatus and transmits, to the Web server, a request for the predetermined information regarding the source IP telephone apparatus according to the obtained NAPTR resource record.

Rather than communicate its URL in the form of a caller identification message, each party may communicate its URL to the other in a call set-up signaling message in connection with an Internet Protocol telephone call.
